also interested in this

what kind of computing does he mean? my son fancied having a go at programming so I bought a book called Hello World from Amazon which seems to be going well. DS is a year younger than yours and not very academic so the book must be quite accesible.

Would be interested to hear what others have found

My DS and some other EHE young people are joining in Young Rewired State 2012 starting 6 August. They spend a week programming in a group in a centre (in a company with adults from the company as mentors) then they go to a "camp" for the weekend. Prizes are awarded.

They have a resources page with lots of links to other programming sites. It might be worth starting there.

Hi Lindy

I am a programmer here are a list of outstanding free online providers in a variety of computery subjects
udacity
coursera

If he really wants to get heavily into programming he should maths based classes too which you can find at khanacademy.

If you can manage to get him a Raspberry Pi for his pet projects then do so. I would encourage him to learn as many languages as possible and keep coding as much as possible on small projects or even better get involved in open source projects.

If he has any specific interests that you want to chat about then feel free to contact me.
