We've just moved to Qatar with our 3 under 6s. Before we left the UK a week ago DD1 was in reception, DD2 was in pre-school and due to start reception in September, DD3 is 1.

School places are not happening out here! Which I half-expected. We went to see an international school the other day; to say I was unimpressed doesn't even cover it. They actually tried to NOT show us around. When I finally got them to (after the DDs had sat the paid for entrance tests - I know, won't fall for that one again) they showed us one classroom and the inside play area for hot days. Everywhere else was closed apparently. The class we saw was the reception equivalent with two tables of twelve children and no room to move around at all. Totally unsuitable for DD2 who will only turn 4 in
July.

the girls are going to be out of school until at least September, although probably a lot longer. So I think I need to say that we'll at the very least be temporarily HEing, not sure about the long term really - DD1 loved school and DD2 was really enjoying her pre-school.

You're welcome to join us!

What a wonderful experience to be in Qatar. I'm sure your girls will learn more just being out and about in such an exotic place. Maybe you could decide that what you really want them to learn is arabic? Then the lessons all take place with neighbourhood children in the local park :o

Thanks ommward.

It's actually providing me with a great excuse. I'm a secondary teacher - well, was, haven't been for a few years - and have always been interested in HE, have lurked here quite a bit! Just thought we'd see how school went first and DD1 took to it like a duck to water...

Think we'll do a lot of autonomous learning to start with at least. They're still so small really but it won't be in the park at the moment, it's just too hot. However, I think I'm in love with phonics so am going to pick up on that from school and try to continue and develop it.

And as for Arabic, I,m trying to set up lessons for myself so we'll see if I get anywhere with that and see if we can find someone to help the DDs a bit.
