Hi All
DH has been questioning the value of play (as in "shouldn't they be doing more work?")...and as he won't take my word for it Hmm just wondering if anyone knows of any papers/references/articles they could recommend or link that I can wave in his face and say "See??!!"

Thanks
C x

How about using the Finnish system for reference? The children don't start school until they are 7 years old. So up until this age they are just playing. Their schooling system is one of the best in the world.

www.psychologytoday.com/blog/freedom-learn/200811/the-value-play-i-the-definition-play-provides-clues-its-purposes and the following posts. Perhaps the fourth in the series ("Play is Nature?s Way of Teaching Us New Skills") would be most persuasive to your husband.
