Does anyone know if there are any groups/books/info out there? I have HE DS from the start as I felt he wouldn't fit in school and now it seems he may have aspergers, or if not AS tendencies then social and emotional development probs. Do many people HE ASD children, is it a viable option or do they need to be in the school system to help them socially? My gut instict is he would struggle and hate school and that has always been my feeling but this SEN issue is a new one really that I am having to face

There's a great book called "Paths are made by walking: Home Educating our Autistic Spectrum Children"

:-)

There are a lot of us who HE our child/ren who have ASD. These children very often simply don't fit into the school system.

There is a website Home Education Special Needs that has a link to it's email support group-a place where you'll find lots of support from parents who are also doing the same.

I second Ommmwards recommendation of the book.

If you are a Facebook lover there is Home Educating our Special Needs children page there too-for parents who are home educating, (NOT for LA employees to spy on us, as some have tried just recently.....)

Thanks will checknout those groups and have added the book to my ever growing amazon wishlist!

Hi sparkout

I don't think there's one rule fits all regarding children "needing" to be in school for a particular reason.

In my experience, for people with Aspergers nothing is a perfect solution.

Home ed has totally worked for us though.

Thank you FionaJNicholson, I keep thinking HE was right for him last week so the possibility of a label doesn't actually change who he is!

ShockShockShock I missed this?

julienoshoes · 27/04/2012 21:10

which bit did you miss iceflower?
The fact there is a dedicated FB page .....or that every now and again LA employees try and get onto HE FB pages? (Or yahoo groups for that matter....)

Iceflower · 30/04/2012 20:44

It was the "LA employees try etc etc" part I was referring to, as I'm probably paranoid and thought you were talking about me Blush. I recently joined the FB page and it's relatively quiet, but I'm grateful it's there. I need all the support I can get Smile.

julienoshoes · 30/04/2012 23:05

LOL!

No I was talking about a couple of instances where LA officers, employed as HE Liaison Officers (or what ever their title is) trying to get onto a couple of the FB HE pages.

julienoshoes · 30/04/2012 23:08

iceflower I'll post on the FB Mumsnet HE page details of the other FB HE pages, if you are interested.

Iceflower · 01/05/2012 06:46

Juliennoshoes, that would be kind, thank you.
