LEA worries

I've read quite a few posts on here and elsewhere about problems with deregistering. When I first home eded over six years ago no one cared that my child wasn't in school and I didn't even deregister, I just took them out, no questions asked.

Should I be worried now? I am taking my son out at the end of June and it is an independent school, although it is funded by the government (spec music school). Am I likely to be faced with opposition?

If it's an independent school you'll just need to give whatever notice is required by the contract for the fees. Your son could stop attending whenever you wanted though. Independent schools aren't compelled to notify the LA though word may get out.

People tend not to write to an internet forum when it's straightforward and uneventful.

I wouldn't worry. When I took mine out, one school informed the LA, the other didn't bother. I think the one that didn't bother had their wrists slapped when we were found, but we didn't get any trouble over it Grin. They were state schools. You ought to have no trouble at all with an independent. Just send a letter (I'd advise once you start, not before). Job done :)
