How to make reading and writing fun?

Both my kids have the same problem they have the ability but none of the interest. When they do read or writing they are very good at it, but they really just dont have the drive to do so. Any suggestions for encouraging interest or ways to make it fun?

How old are they? Suggestions really depend on age.

My DDs are 6.5yrs. One of them loves the Reading Eggs website and gets through loads of books online. We go to the library a couple of times a week and they choose whatever they want. We all wrote a story today taking turns to write a sentence each and had lots of fun making up a rather bizarre tale! However, maybe if they can read fluently they just feel they don't need to keep doing it. My DDs go through phases but I figure they are actually reading all the time - cereal boxes at breakfast, billboards, adverts on sides of buses etc
