Made the decision that our 3.4yr dd not attending Reception nxt September 2012. Am I right in believing that I do not legally have to inform anyone? I've started keeping basic notes on our learning just in case. Can anyone give me the nod please as friends are all frantically applying for school places. Xmas Wink

that's right.

If keeping notes helps you that's great - but if not you don't have to do that, especially not now, your child isn't even compulsory education age for around 2 years.

You don't have to inform anyone that you are home educating but if your local council has no information about the educational setting for your child it is likely to keep asking you what arrangements you have made, following Children Missing Education legislation in place in England since February 2007 and in Wales since September 2009.

We got a letter from our local authority asking us to confirm our schooling arrangements (as we went independent). Depends on your local authority as to whether you would be contacted I'd have thought.

You don't have to inform anyone. With my nearly 5 year old ds we simply didn't apply for a school place. I keep notes too just in case and so I have a record of what we've done so I can look back a see how far we've come and if anything needs extra attention in the future but it's not so important at this age. We've yet to be contacted by anyone from the LA.
