Have decided that i need to pull ds out of school as of today, what do i need to do?

Have not got anywhere with the problems he has at school and also school is on special measures, so have decided to HE ( he wants to do this)

Are you in England? The law varies, but in England all you need to do is to write a letter to the school informing them that you are removing your child from the school from whatever date (today is fine) and that you wish them to remove him from the school register.

If you want to do it right now, I would hand-deliver it to the school office, so they have it right away rather than send it through the post. Then take him home!

Have just finished letter and will take the letter in at end of school.

Having received your letter, the school must now inform the Local Authority that you have taken your son out of school. It's likely that you'll hear from the LA in the near future, wanting to know about how you are planning to educate your son. Some LAs are in a big hurry to make contact ASAP and others aren't.

You have various options when it comes to responding. The main thing to know is that you needn't feel put on the spot. If they ring up or are even rude enough to appear on your doorstep pressing you for a meeting, you don't have to agree to anything then and there. You could ask them to put their request in writing. Then you can read up on what the law requires, or come here or to some other home ed forum to ask advice about your obligations so you can decide the best way forward.

Sometimes families feel pressurised to have meetings they don't want soon after withdrawing their children from school when they may have other things on their plate. That's the only reason I am mentioning it at this stage!
