Expecting a visit from the Home Ed Consultant - any tips?

Home Ed consultant is coming next week to see me and my 5 year old dd.

I know I am under no obligation to let them come or to show them anything specifically. But I'd like to have a good relationship with them and make the most of any contacts/resources that they can offer - especially as we're planning for her to go back to school for Year 2 when we move back home.

Any tips on what they might like to see or the sort of things they might want to discuss?

We're in Bucks by the way if anyone has any specific experience.

We just talked about the things we had been and planned to do. It was much more of a chat than having to prove anything. I think though it may vary from place to place.

Have you submitted and Educational Philosophy ? If not - make one of those - it will give you something to talk about.

Haven't heard about an Educational Phiolosphy (off to google it now). We just had to fill in a form which seemed a bit random in the bits of information it asked for.

here is a bit about it.

Just pretty much what you want to achieve, and how you propose to achieve it. Ours was about wanting a wide range of experience both academic and practical and exposing the kids to as wide a range of things as appropriate, while maintaining the basic life skills (reading writing, maths etc). And to follow the interests of the child as much as possible. Semi structured in our case.

All common sense stuff. But will depend entriely on your take on life. I think they just want to see that you have thought about it rather than that you are just withdrawring from the school system without having a viable alternative.

You are obliged to satisfy this section of the education act.

'The parent of every child of compulsory school age shall cause him to receive efficient full time education suitable a) to his age ability and aptitude, and b) any special educational needs he may have, either by attendance at a school or otherwise.'
