Hi all,

I have just received a letter from the EWO to say they have received information that my children are not in school. I have just come back from abroad and understood that I did not need to do anything as my children were not registered here at school.

Is this normal or do you think someone has passed my information on to the LEA.

What do I do now. I have only been back since March.

Thanks

I would reply to the letter to say that they are correct, the children are not registered in school because you are home educating. You were not wrong to do nothing - there is no legal requirement for you to register or anything like that, but it's reasonable for them to ask if someone has pointed out that your children are not at school, so they can check. I'd guess that someone must have mentioned it to them and passed on your information, else they wouldn't know your children even existed.

I wouldn't bother trying to give them details of what you're doing - I don't think its usually the EWO who deals with HE. But they'll probably pass on your info to the HE section, who will likely then get in touch for more details.

Thanks for the reply AMumInScotland.

I was hoping I could stay under the radar, oh well.

EWOs deal with home education where I live, so you may well come under their role. But AMIS is right, you're not obliged to give any information or do anything else at this stage other than answer their enquiry.

I wonder if the EWOs might have gotten that information from your GP or HV.
