What made you decide to HE?

I have 3 DC ages 12, 10 and 17 months

I am seriously considering HE them but have no idea where to even begin.

They are bright children and don't have any particular problems at school but I am sick of the stress that is pit on them, the stupid levels of homework, and the uninspiring lessons they receive.

I would be really interested to know what made you decide to HE?

similar to you - our kids were ok in school - but not more than that. It didn't inspire them. We were lucky to have the time to do it so we went for it (last Easter so nearly a year now !).

Since then we have come to realise that we despise the whole concept of the national curriculum and all the constant assessment that takes place to make sure kids are "where they should be". I have no idea how any 30 child class can possibly meet the needs and interests of all those kids - with only one teacher (and maybe a TA).

So much time is wasted in school - in crowd control, and assessment and monitoring.

We all learn differently and have different interests - there is no rule that you have to x at a given age. It is great to have the freedom to follow an interest to whatever level you like. Especially science, history and languages at the primary level stop at such a shallow and uninteresting level (if the NC work books are anything to go by).

We enjoy being with them. We could see how much they had already learnt without any formal instruction. I think they start school to young in this country and I don't agree with formal testing of young children.

Desperation. I don't recommend letting things get bad before choosing home ed. Go for it while you still have happy children.
