Are you on the Welsh HE support list HE-Cymru

I am certain it is being talked about there!
Mike Fortune Wood, the list owner is in Wales, and I know is very keenly watching this, as I have read posts about it from him already.
He's the person I would ask personally.

Sounds familiar.

A few home educators in my LEA have received letters inviting us to a meeting to talk abuot the council's review of the way it carries out its duties, but it's presented as though it's from the council, rather than nationally.

We've declined to attend for several reasons. One is that they are asking for 'our views', which we've presented repeatedly over the past two years and the LEA have acknowledged at the time then gone on to ignore. Another is that the 'independent specialist' who will be facilitating the talk is known for 'supporting' traveller families to improve their chldren's education by keeping them in one school. He also works (so the Interweb suggests) with persistent truants and underachievers. Doesn't sound like the kind of chap we want advising the LEA on how they should be 'supporting' us.

Anyway, I digress. Just thought I'd mention that something is happening here in the north east of England so it's perhaps not just a local matter.

We're in the North East but obviously not the same LA as you, streaky! Our LA Advisor was great and very positive about traveller families and how they educate their DCs. Unfortunately he has apparently now left the HE team and we don't know if he's going to be replaced.

That's a shame, Tinuviel. Unfortunately he might not be replaced in the current climate, so many local government officers aren't.

I do like our HE inspector person, she's quite nice and supportive, can see ds is thriving and doesn't question our provision. The problem is with those higher up the management scale who want control over us and won't rest till they get it. We're too far out of their comfort zone for them to cope with Smile.
