Hello, we reckon DD has chicken pox and will therefore not be able to go to preschool for a week or two. She doesn't actually feel unwell and really likes to be kept busy! I'm not worried about her "falling behind" she's only 3.5 and the preschool is entirely play-based anyway, I just want to keep her entertained otherwise she will end up fighting with her baby brother and OMG if I see her Dora the Explorer DVD one more time I will use it as a frisbee!

I told her we could do school at home while her spots get better and she was very excited about it. DH is off work too with a back injury, so it could be some really good family time except we can't really go out much.

So, any ideas? Obviously it'll be lots of playing with toys and board games but I would like some activities too really, craft, letters and numbers etc. Maybe some kind of 'project' to show off on her return to preschool as she loves taking pictures in to show them.

Would be really grateful for any sugestions :)

Oh no! hope she is better soon.
What about an Autumn theme? Woodland trust Nature dectectives website has loads of great activities. You could do some leaf rubbings, talk about shape/ size and colours?

Make your own Christmas cards and gift tags?

Cbeebies website - always a hit here and fairly educational!

Cutting and sticking.

Beans/ rice / pasta in sealed pots for shaking, babe may like that too!

Put some bread out for the birds and have a bird watch. Count how many you see and find out what they are called.

Playdough, if you haven't already got some google a recipe, it's usually just flour, salt and food dye if I remember rightly!

Have fun and good luck!

My ds has just gone back to pre school after a week and a half off with chicken pox.
We painted some xmas cards for the teachers, did lots of puzzles as he loves these atm and he decided he wanted to make 10 different train tracks in the kitchen :)

Its really hard as my ds got quite a bad chesty cough so some days he just wanted to lie there, I was unsure about sending him in today so hopng hes okay at pick up time :)

Lovely ideas so far thanks :)

She's been quite grotty today, she just watched sodding Dora in the morning while I escaped to the shops. This afternoon we've played lots of board games and playdough etc. And she taught us some games and rhymes she plays at preschool.
She misses her friends though, poor thing - it's horrible that she can't just go out and play :(

Well, turned out it's not chicken pox! She had a 3hr session on Thursday but was off again yesterday as she's still not too well.

She was really happy to go back but I miss her when she is there!

I will still be using the ideas you suggested though :)
