Home ed & flexi in Powys?

I've just started to home-ed my 4-year old in North Yorkshire but am intending to move to Powys in the near future. Does anyone know of any mid-Wales home-ed forums or other ways of tracking down Powys based home-ed families?

Also, if we were to stay in North Yorkshire we had arranged for my DS to start a local school in a flexi arrangement. Has anyone any experience of flexi-schooling in Powys?

with thanks and best wishes to all!

Powys is a very sparsely populated rural county. Similar in some respects to the farming areas of north yorkshire. Many people in Powys have Welsh as their first language. Will you be living near to one of the towns in Powys or will you be living near the border with England.

PippaOm, there are plenty of experienced home educators on this forum who will be able to advise you about your situation.
I have bumped up this thread so that others might see it and give you the advice you need.

Powys is the biggest county by area in Wales, but it is very sparsely populated.

It really depends in which part of Powys you choose to live in. You could be near the English border, near Shrewsbury, Or you could be near Neath Port Talbot.

Hi there

Agree, totally depends on where in Powys you are. If you are close enough to the southern end, you can probably get to the stuff on in South Wales. There is a lot going on, at least to my bumpkinish eye. There are also a lot of families with small kids, so you will be in good company.

Up the other end-not so sure.

There is an absolutely brilliant HE camp each year in Carmarthen, which is very close to Powys-www.walesenvironmentalhomeeducationcamp.com/ (last year's info, but you get the idea!)

just to add, you probably want to keep info about where you are going to to a minimum onlist. If you want to CAT me, I'm happy to tell you more specific stuff.

There's a free private message facility you can use now - very handy:)

Hi,

Sorry, haven't checked my mail for a while so I've only just seen your queries.

I'm moving to the Newtown area (I think that's vague enough to be safe whilst close enough to be helpful!).

Would be delighted to chat on or off the board about this - not sure how to use the private message facility (thanks Marjoriew).

Best wishes
Pippa
