Narrow hallway getting battered!

Our hallway is basically the width of front door. It’s a modern house so not sure panelling will suit but the walls are always getting scuffed. Also the corner of the wall where it turns to the stairway.

Any ideas for a modern way to decorate to hide as much of the scuffs as possible? I thought about that slatted wooden cladding people are using but not sure it will just make it feel more dark and narrow!

I wouldn’t have the wooden cladding in a hall, bit of a dust trap and still might get scuffed.
I’d just have lining paper painted with a wipe clean paint so any marks should just clean off.

You can clean off scuffs with fabric softener on a clean cloth, added bonus of making your hallway smell lovely.

There are paints formulated for high traffic areas. Have a chat in your local paint shop.

Thanks all. And do you think it’s better to stick to white or would a darker colour hide more? (Will the scuffs come off a darker colour?)

We used a darker colour when we had a similar hallway...not because of scuffs etc, but because (despite the small window on the landing) it felt dingy when painted a light colour. So we embraced the dark and it immediately felt better.

I put painted wooden panelling on the bottom part of my hallways when my kids were young. Best thing I ever did. Dirty hand prints just wiped off the gloss. Tough finish stopped scuffing from them charging down the stairs and the light colour brightened up the space. My mum and dad bought the materials as a birthday present for me. It raised their eyebrows at the time and my mum was a bit confused because it wasn't the sort of thing she could wrap and put a bow on. However, now that they are no longer with us I often look at the panelling and just smile remembering them buying it!

You can get corner protectors, in various lengths, to fit over the vulnerable corners. I've got them in the kitchen where the door is set deep in the wall And the dog brushes the corners and makes them dirty. A quick wipe with a damp cloth and the protectors are clean, mine are white plastic, but my walls are pale too so they don't look out of place. Got them on Amazon.

Mines narrow to and I had it painted in silk paint scuffs wipe off without taking the paint off

We had this issue and I painted using Dulux because if you touch it up months or even years later it blends in. I didn't paint the whole wall just the scuffs.
