I was looking at my dining room/slash continued kitchen (for which there was no space in the kitchen for) and can see I have failed miserably with the decor. I just ordered patterned curtains, theres a patterned tablecloth and pattered rug in there also. No they do not match and it looks chaotic. However, I love the curtains so just went for it. I love pattern and the kids love it too! What is something in your home which you love which you think most people will hate? (referring to the interior design of course please)

I haven't seen any interiors magazine in the last decade where everything is matching and beige. That's a very 2010s look. I'm not sure we're quite the trailblazers we imagine we are with our colour and pattern.

I see a huge amount of “warm neutrals” content - not necessarily all out beige but beige/ cream/plaster tones as a base and then layered in “tones”. I do agree that the multiple colour thing is also a trend though- although layered rather than chaotic. I find it’s really hard to get right- I got one room bang on ( more luck than judgement) and was like “oh wow I’ve nailed this” but I suspect my kitchen is about to be a disaster- DH and the decorator currently exchanging glances re the paint colour 😂

DD did GCSE art and did a mixed media picture of her twin which is so bad that everyone who sees it is 😂.
We love it so much it is displayed in an incredibly ornate gilt covered frame like it is a painting in the Louvre. Just reminds me of when they were hilarious teenagers. It is hideous though,

Any chance of a photo? Maybe blur the eyes on the off chance we recognise them 😅

Like others I also have colours, paintings, patterns everywhere. The one that elicits most reaction from visitors is the Ikea Hemnes dresser upgraded with 60s angled legs and drawers covered in velvet leopard sticky back plastic.

I think @Felu is right, we’re not as original as we think, there are plenty of fellow travellers. BUT within my friends, family and acquaintances we are definitely outliers, no-one else I know personally follows (or likes?) our style. If you try decorating or refitting it’s still grey being offered most, those big bathroom panels and dark blue matte kitchens. I’m about to do a bathroom and I can find b&w floor tiles and metro wall tiles with dados but I can’t find them easily in pink 🤷‍♀️

When I look on Rightmove round here, as I persistently do despite loving my own house, I see lots of colour, kilim rugs, deep green, blue, and red sofas and mismatched chairs in fairly robust patterns. I see blue, green, pink, and yellow painted wooden kitchens, quite often two-tone green and pink or blue and yellow, and it's a deep buttery yellow. I reliably see lots of layered William Morris patterns with large Pop Art-ish paintings, substantial monstera and parlour palms and pothos. Loads of draped cable overhead lighting and Pooky style table lamps with Ikat pleated shade with contrasting ribbon. A wood burning stove is practically mandatory. In a child's room, a tasteful angled paint effect like a mountain or a tent.

I rarely see coloured baths. I do see lots of coloured tiles, specifically subway tiles in pink, green, and deep blue zellige style textures, or for older refits then patchwork squares. Brass cabinet hardware, typically.

It's a look, you guys. I didn't mean to! I might have thought I was completely original but I conclude on observation I'm part of a culture. 😉
