Is this type of table dated now?

The dimensions are spot on and it’s ideal that it extends but I’m not sure if it’s too orangey in colour.

Id need to buy a sideboard to match - it’s going into a kitchen diner that has white units and black worktop and I’m hoping to introduce natural wood and rattan to soften the stark kitchen. Will be adding oak shelves and wood / plants etc.

Any suggestions of a sideboard would be appreciated (I’d like curves / ribbed to soften the look).

Im just not sure about the table and had my eye on a glass top round one with oak legs but it won’t extend.

Any thoughts please? Also, what chairs should I use?

I was looking at this sideboard, would it match?

Have you seen either of them in real life? The colour can be very different from a photograph, and often less orange.

I have this exact table and it's the bane of my existence. I'm constantly cleaning the grooves.

I don't think the colour of either would go very well with your flooring. Maybe the sideboard would at a push.

I don’t think it matters if it’s not exactly the same. You should buy things you like, not things that just ‘go’. And I do like the sideboard.

If it's proper wood, you could stain it to the colour you'd prefer.

No, the table is being sold second hand locally, it’s difficult to then get a feel for how it will match a sideboard that I will buy separately. It’s why I thought a glass top table might be a safer bet as even though the legs would be oak they won’t need to be such a direct match.
Glass tables don’t tend to extend though and ideally I need space to seat 6 occasionally. I have another picture of the table but it won’t upload as it’s too big.

What do you suggest? I really don’t want more black and white.

I wonder whether a more whitewashed wood would work better?

I like both. Glass tables are awful, constantly marked and you can see your legs

It looks very like my daughter’s table. The grooves are a magnet for crumbs which are tricky to remove. She has a little brush to sweep them out 😊

I love this. It’s a more whitewashed wood. A glass top table would be better then.

When I need to seat 6 for the odd Xmas day I might just get a small folding table to add on that I’d keep in the garage.

I can't stand glass tables, as pp said, they always look filthy and I don't want to see everyone's feet while eating.
I don't love the table you posted, but if it suits all your requirements it will be fine. Does the middle section come out and, if so, would you do that? My parents table does the same and table is now a different colour to the middle section, so they use a tablecloth when it's extended.
I'm a fan of an oilcloth table cover - may be an option if you aren't fussed on the colour?

I like that sideboard and it would suit. I think a darker wood would suit your kitchen too though.

The glass tops mark easily. I'd be tempted to go more frosted if you were going glass.

Table cloths are a very good idea

That’s an oak furnitureland table. Think it’s the Knightsbridge range. Perhaps you could check on their website for more pictures and chair ideas? When I bought that table it came with leather chairs. The leather has flaked off over 6-8 years and looks terrible so do not get their leather chairs. The table is still excellent 11 years and 2 kids later!

And very old-fashioned!

I have the rectangular version of this. It’s a good, solid table. But due to the grooves and too much ‘wood’ colour, I have this tablecloth on it.

I bloody love a tablecloth and have all sorts of funky and retro ones.

Anyway...

For several years I had a table which wasn't big enough at Christmas so used to do exactly as you are suggesting: folding table in the garage brought out only when needed. It was handy for BBQs and similar as well. I then inherited a table which serves us better.

Same, ours is rectangular and extending. The grooves are disgusting.
We also have a very similar kitchen. The sideboard is nice but I would say they match. It's close enough but I think you find a closer match with the table.

As others have said, the table and sideboard don't have to match. I'm not keen on the table

I have an oblong glass table - you can't see legs and feet as have a central runner for the serving dishes, and place mats etc.

You can get extending glass tables - my friend has one that's oblong, frosted and is a beautiful item to look at! It probably cost a fortune though

The reasons they were useful then are the same reasons they're useful now. And you can get some very nice, modern, stylish ones.

Things being "in fashion" doesn't change their usefulness.

Both are fine / nice.
Neither match your kitchen - kitchen is v cold, these are warm.

A nice oilskin cloth for the top wpuld be my recommendation.

I think you a wooden table is always a good idea, but the kitchen looks very monochrome so I'm not sure how well it will go in there. Perhaps a painted white wooden table? Glass tables always look cheap to me.
