Recommendations for blackout blinds that also help with insulation

Hi looking to buy blackout blinds that also function as keeping heat in and out a bit? Anyone have any amazing blinds that they recommend or specific styles to avoid? Anyone used Hilary’s (I get a lot of leaflets for them through the door!)?

Thank you for any advice!

I bought blackouts from Dunelm a few years ago and they still look good and keep the light out. I can't say how insulating they are though? I would think a heavier weight fabric would be the best for insultation.

We had a quote from Hilarys and they were 4x the cost of 2, local, blind/curtain companies!

Oh great I’ll take a look at dunelm!

Gosh that’s a lot more… I did wonder why the leaflets are always like 60% off etc like if you can afford to just knock that off maybe they’re a bit spenny hahaha

The Ikea cellular blind : www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/trippevals-block-out-cellular-blind-white-90506547/ gives good blackout and makes much more difference in insulation than a standard blackout roller blind

Our rooms with these are definitely cosier.

The honeycomb ones work well. Blinds 2go have a big selection with various fitting mechanisms and much cheaper than Hilary's.

We had lots of blinds made by blinds2go in the summer and have been really pleased by the results. We paid a handyman a day rate to put them up as were not that handy and wanted them to look really good. We paid blinds2go a small additional fee for their fast replacement service in case we had mis measured. Would recommend!

I’ve bought thermal blackout blinds from Blinds2Go, which were great, and I’d thoroughly recommend- I’ve heard far too many hard sell horror stories to even risk contacting Hillarys for a quote! But from what I understand, they’re very expensive.

Didn't they increase condensation and mould?

That’s a really good question as we live in an older property. I’d like to know the answer too Smile

Nope, I haven’t noticed this at all, but then I air rooms almost pathologically! Even on the coldest days I’ll still open windows for
at least 20 minutes each morning to give everything a blast of fresh air.
