What size rug works best under a 1800 x 900 dining table?

Hi there,
We've decided we'd like a flatwoven rug under our dining table (room has a wooden floor and it all gets a bit loud and scrape-y moving chairs around).
The table is 1800mm x 900mm, with chairs normally pushed right in under it when not in use.
If anyone has a similar-sized dining table with rug setup, what size rug did you go for? I've seen lots of different advice online and not entirely sure what to do😁

How big is the room? That matters too. You need enough space to push the chairs back and exit the table without the back legs getting caught on the legs. At least a metre outside the size of the table.
We had a flat weave rug under our table but got rid after a year. Stuff gets caught under it and makes it hard to clean. How about some decent felt pads under all the chair legs?

@SeeSawSeen We no longer have an 1800 x 900 table since downsizing, but under our 1200 diameter round table we have a 3400 x 2200 antique kilim. The colours were so perfect I gave up my search for a circular rug!

Because of the way we've positioned our chairs (not at the obvious 12/3/6/9 o'clock) there's plenty of space to pull them out on the rug without scraping them across our old waxed floorboards.

It's a small room (5m x 3.35m max), semi open plan to the kitchen.

Was just coming to say put felt pads under your chair legs instead!

You could go and buy some newspapers and spread them out under the table to get an idea of what looks best, and what the size of the room can stand.

Honestly can't believe I never thought of pads on the underside of chair legs!
And using newspapers to get a visual of size is definitely something we will try if we still decide to go down the rug route.
