New bathroom questions

Starting to plan a bathroom refurb for next year and just looking for opinions.

If you were refurbing yours, what colour of taps, shower, etc would you opt for? Chrome, brass, nickel, etc? I see brass is in style just now, but I can’t quite see past silver tones and feel brass will date quickly. I definitely don’t want matt black.

I’m also considering getting rid of the bath and just having a walk in shower. There is only one bathroom, and only me and adult DC. Has anyone got rid of their only bath and regretted it? I’m not even sure why I’m saying rid of - I think it’s just for a change! On the very rare occasion that I think I want a bath, I’m bored and back out within five minutes.

Opinions appreciated.

We’ve had our bathroom done recently. We stuck with chrome. Had our only bath removed & a bigger walk in shower put in. Bath been used only twice in the 2 years we’ve lived here. It’s so much better & more practical. We also had the shower panels rather than tiles & much easier to clean, no grout to discolour etc. Only me & DH at home tho, no kids.

Practically chrome is easier because you can use any number of brands and it will as good as match. As soon as you choose brushed nickel for example it get difficult as every brands will be different. Think toilet seat hinges, tapes, shower screen fitting, radiator valves… it also gets a significantly more expensive.

I just had a bathroom done a few weeks ago. I stuck with chrome - looks good, easy to clean, lots of styles to choose from. Did a shower over the bath but this house has two walk-in showers as well.

my chrome stuff peels. i think it must be cheap. i didnt buy cheap though. stainless steel next time.

We stuck with chrome. like pp said I looked at brushed steel but it was so difficult to match.
Got rid of the bath two years ago and haven’t regretted it. I think there’s been one or two occasions when I’ve fancied a bath but it’s so lovely having a big shower.

We went for brushed brass, it does raise the price somewhat compared to chrome as a PP said but I really love it and it wasn't too hard to get matching stuff. I don't really care if it dates, everything dates at some point so choose what you love! We have a shower over bath, mainly because the young kids still have baths. If they'd been older we may have just done a big shower instead, we may well do this in a few years time as neither me or DH ever have baths.

Did away with bath, chrome fittings. Toilet is rimless wall mounted comfort height. Vanity unit is wall hung as is a large cupboard. Future proofed for when we are past it. Loving it all and definitely no regrets.
We used B&Q design service but bought everything from Plumbworld and found a very reasonable bathroom fitter. Plumbworld were excellent quality for the price.

We tiled floor to ceiling with large tiles. Easy to clean with Flash speed mop.

Well the biggest compromise I made when I chose my current flat was only having a shower and no bath. It was the best fit for my needs in most ways but I do miss a bath. However, you may feel differently.

We’ve been advised against panels by several plumbers and fitters due to many issues. I’m not keen on the look anyway and suspect some push them as they’re easy to put up and they can’t tile.My issue is with vanity units as they just aren’t as hardy as ceramic and date. Most are just chipboard underneath. When you’re spending thousands on a bathroom I don’t want to have to replace anything. Struggling to find nice ceramic basins minus a vanity that I can actually look at though. Finding doing bathrooms way harder than kitchens.

We'll hopefully be doing ours soon(ish) as two years since moving in we're still living with the previous owner's awful, ancient clinical white bathroom although I did rip the carpet up already! DH will be DIYing everything and fortunately his tiling is excellent as I loathe wall panels!

We love colourful bathrooms and don't care about what's on trend so we'll be having yellow walls and matching tiles plus good quality solid brass taps/shower valve etc. We already bought a multicolour London Basin Co oriental style basin which will be mounted on a cast iron vanity stand we've had for years. It's a much smaller room than our previous bathrooms, so we're debating fitting a shower instead of a bath with shower over. I'm currently undecided as I do prefer a bath.

Think I may keep the bath. It’s a narrow bathroom and without the bath it wouldn’t look right as would leave very little space to exit the walk in shower and then pass the toilet. And there’s not much scope for reconfiguring.

It will most likely be tiled. Definitely not wet wall panelled. Although I’ve seen some nice wooden pannelling, same as the really narrow strip style that has become popular in recent years. I’d never consider it in my living room, but I do like a wooden vanity etc in the bathroom, so would work alongside that .

But still most likely to be tiled.

I want a cosy bathroom with character without being twee and really struggling to find any bathroom products that give that.

I’m having mine done now. Replacing the bath with a walk in shower. Moving the toilet 90 degrees to make access easier. Sticking to chrome fittings, black already dated and brass will too.
