Please help me avoid sofa regret

Currently repurposing a room to a TV room, so no previous sofas to compare it to. I found a sofa I liked, it has skinny arms and is raised on wooden feet so not bulky. The shop had the 3 seater and the wide armchair on display. At 2.25m the 3 seater (seats 4) looked a bit corporate, so I’m keen on the 2 seater (to fit 3) at 1.84m, I also liked the wide armchair/snuggler at 1.3m.
The room is 3.6 x 3.6 m, do you think I can fit both? Diag attached.
The window is a french window, it opens outwards.

My 2 seater wouldn’t seat 3 comfortably to watch TV, it’s OK for 3 to perch for a short while.

Thanks Persephone! I was hoping it would help me make a decision. Do you know how long your 2 seater is?
ETA - If it turns out I only have space for 3 to sit comfortably (2 on the sofa, 1 on the snuggler) I’ll have big regrets.

I think you are right to go with the single chair and the 2 seater . It might look too crowded with anything else especially if you want to add side tables or lamps .

Skinny arms immediately says it will look lovely but not be that comfortable. If this is a TV room I’d prioritise comfort over look.

Would a corner sofa work better?

Usually the sofa company provides a seat measurement, ie total width minus the arms. If you have this, divide it by three and 'mark' it out on an existing sofa or on the stairs. Sit on it and imagine someone sitting in the next slot on each side of you - are you comfy or do you have to sit stiff and upright?
If the sofa has skinny arms they will probably not be comfy to lean on, so subtract some space first to account for the big cushions you'll need at each end.

If the room is empty can you put the layout on the floor of the room? That bottom right corner is a lot of space to lose.

I also think a corner sofa might be the best fit for this space @DitheringDaisyPetal, assuming that - other than the TV - you have no other furniture/features to take into consideration?

We have a very squishy 2.1m sofa in our TV room (it's a bigger space, approx 4.5 x 4.2m) plus a small, antique two seater. There's only two of us at home these days, but when we have guests no more than two ever sit on the larger one. The antique one is very uncomfortable, but I'm never parting with it as it's unique. We couldn't fit a corner sofa anyway because the room has a dormer window (where the longer sofa just fits perfectly) and a sloping ceiling plus lots of other furniture.

In our snug we have a 1.8m sofa with skinny arms, supposedly a three seater, but again no more than two can realistically sit comfortably on it.

Thanks for all your comments - we thought about a corner sofa, but our neighbours have one in the equivalent room - it looks really tight. I can’t remember what the measurements were but it was pretty small - 2.14 or something.
However, thinking about it, it might not be quite so tight in ours as they’ve moved the door. I’ll have another think about that.

Do you have another living room? How many people will be watching tv together?

If it was a general living room where eg 2 people watch tv regularly and then sometimes a few more people join for conversation, I’d usually go for a big sofa for comfort and then a couple of little accent chairs for visitors etc. But for a dedicated tv space, I’d try to fit in seating that can be lounged in for as many people as possible.

I was wondering if you have space for opposing sofas: one in front of the radiator, one opposite, and the tv moved to the left of the French window. People rarely sit neatly on sofas facing forward, so having the tv at 90 degrees to both sofas needn’t be a deal breaker. 2x 2 seaters would allow 2 to lounge, 4 to sit comfortably, and 6 to squeeze in. Add a floor cushion or two against the wall between the sofas for an extra option.

Sit on the sofa/chair and see if all four of you fit. I'm actually being serious here; either that or persuade 3 of your mates to come with you.

Every single sofa I've bought without sitting on and trying out has been a source of regret to me. I'm never doing it again.

You'd have more space if you put a longer sofa on the wall where the tv is and did something like this above the radiator.

That looks amazing - we’d love to have the room swapped round, it would look so much better, but we assumed that the TV over the radiator was a bad idea. I’ll look in to this too. Thanks @watchingthishtread

We have a corner sofa from DFS, our living room is not huge but we can sit 4 adults comfortably

I think both would fit just fine, though you can try out a furniture layout tool to visualize and move things around and use the exact sizes for your plan. I also wouldn't want a corporate looking furniture in my house because it makes the vibe semi-official and it just doesn't feel right. I think you're fine, even on your plan it looks like you'll have plenty of space to move the pieces if necessary.

We got a corner sofa recently after years of 2 sofas and whilst it’s quite dominant in the room, the annoying empty corner is no more and I think it looks better. We had a 4 seater and a 2 seater.

We went to IKEA after looking at more expensive options and I actually really like it. I couldn’t justify the prices in some other places although I was very tempted by loaf (££££!)

Im moving towards the corner sofa, as suggested, as the 2 sofa solution would really only seat 3 comfortably (2 on the sofa, 1 on the chair). I had been put off the corner option by seeing others, but I’ve remapped it and think it works. I was put off by the neighbours’ corner sofa as that looked squashed, but they have their door ina different place and still have the chimney breast so hopefully ours wont be. Also the designs im
looking at are on legs so hopefully less imposing in the room
@watchingthishtreadEverything I’ve seen online says don’t put the tv over the radiator, even with boxes etc so we won’t go for that. Ideally we’d move the radiator but that would mean a new floor so we’ll skip that for now.
I now need to choose between 2 sofas, in different shops of course, a smaller one (2.3m) and a larger (2.6). I’m going to do as @Hatty65 suggested and take bods to the sofa store to check it out. I’m leaning towards the larger one but need to measure along the skirting board to the cm to be sure it fits! I might even head over and take a peek in ikea too @LadybirdZombieApocalypse
