Hall light fitting do I need a new one?

Our house has had a lobg awaited makeover. I think I need a new light fitting for the hall, the walls are F&B Cabbage white and the floor is macadamia oak. They’re covered for protection in the pic. Any suggestions or is the current light okay?

I’d have a new light fitting to finish it off properly. Depends whether you want traditional or modern.
You could link in the floor colour and colour of door handles so light oak and chrome or brass effect in either a traditional style or spots that can be angled to light up the space.

John Lewis, Next and BHS have lots of options.

I’d invest in a beautiful new shade rather than a whole new fitting.

Definitely, it's a quite dated. As above, we have some beautiful ones from Pooky and Jim Lawrence. Such a beautiful big hall, I'd also get a nice lamp on some sort of dresser/console table.

That fitting is going to look tired when you uncover the floor. I'm not going to point you towards anything in particular - we're incredibly picky about our lighting but it's all personal taste - but you've done the makeover so you should make it sing by dressing it appropriately.

I like both of the ones you’ve listed I’m on the hunt for two bedroom ones but sadly can’t find anything suitable both are very close to windows.

@Autumnlife with the recent weather I’d put one of those circular lights with a fan. That’s my plan when we renovate our bedroom.

From those two I prefer the first, it has more colour and texture.
I would encourage you to bring more colour in though!

I'd definitely replace, but the two you've linked seem a bit bland/too similar to the existing @Carrie76. That might just be because my personal taste is for more colour/interesting design in light fittings, though! Ours are a mix of antique/vintage and Pooky and we're about to get one from Jim Lawrence for the porch area.

I agree with @maryberryslayers about adding a lovely statement lamp on a hall table/console too - we have an antique marble/brass corinthian column lamp with a contemporary tie dye shade from Pooky on ours.

The fitting is so close to the wall that we’re having difficulty finding ones that fit with fans unfortunately.
