What can fill this gap?

I have this small alcove in a dining space - feel like it needs something in it but also keen to try and disguise the plug socket. Would be great to get your ideas. Not sure if a plant would hide the socket?

As it's in the dining room, how about a wine fridge? I've no idea what to do to disguise the socket, if it really upsets you perhaps you should simply move it? or, as you suggested, stick a plant in front of it.

A basket with blankets in
A sculpture
A frame with something you like in it
A log basket if the fire next to it is operational
A fancy vase

Nothing in the alcove will hide the plug socket which is outside of the alcove! Put a wine rack in there or build some shelves to make it useful. The socket will look better if you don't leave something black plugged in and if you want to use it you really need to leave it easily accessible.

I would have a cabinet built to the depth of the alcove with shelves inside and a door that opened from the right.

Would be good for storage and would make the area look much more finished.

Yep. A basket with logs or blankets.

It’s quite big, I’d shelf it and put books in there. Not wine rack as right next to fire.

A cat bed with curled up cat. Relocate the socket.

Brilliant idea. Every house needs this. Whether the cat will like it is another subject.

I would start by shortening the cable and changing the plug to a white one. Maybe shelve the alcove and put a plant stand in front of the socket. We have similar powering the TV in the snug and I have the coal scuttle in front of it.

Thanks all - great ideas. A wine rack would fit nicely but I don't drink so would be purely decorative (or for guests' use!)

The socket does need to be in use and is the only one close by. Longer term, might need to consider getting that relocated or shortening wire/changing the colour as suggested.

I like the idea of getting it properly shelved and then having a plant in front of the socket. Will measure up and see if anything fits nicely or whether I need something to be made up.

My son has decided he would like a cat (called Pedro) so maybe this needs to be the solution!

The wiring seems to be inside trunking rather than in the wall so it would be quite a minor job for a sparks to move it a little further back into the alcove, even more minor if you were able to go for a surface mounted socket box. You could use a blanking plate over the existing hole to disguise until time for a major redo of this room at which point you could get that section replastered.
if it were further back in the alcove then it opens up lots of possibilities.

I have a very similar alcove and plug.

I got a storage/blanket box and took the back out of it. It has a lift up lid so I can access the plug from the back that I removed. I have a small vase of dried flowers on top, easy to move to lift the lid and access the plug.

I keep saying I'll move the plug but that's a joke!

A small table, or shelf, with a plant on top and maybe a salt lamp to create a warm glow in that corner. A cosy cat or dog bed underneath the table with a cuddly cat or small dog sleeping there.
