We’re in the process of redoing our kitchen/dining/living space. It will come directly off the hall. We’d like to continue the same flooring from the hall (we have this same flooring in our other reception rooms) into the new space, and it’s a very dark oak/walnut colour amtico.
Im not totally decided on the cabinetry, but at the moment, I’m thinking painted white/pale cream wall and base cabinets and a terracotta type colour painted island with a white quartz worksurface and bar stools. Sofa and armchair likely to be a neutral. I’m hoping to include a small coffee table too which I’d aim to have in a different texture like a neutral stone/stone effect.
My difficulty comes as I need an extendable dining table that seats six day to day but extends to seat 10 comfortably, so at least 280cm length. I can only find extendable tables in wood, which I do really like. But then I’m in a quandary as there is more affordable choice in light oak than in any other wood, but do you think the lighter oak against such a big expanse of darker wood floor would look strange?
I suppose another option would be a rug under the oak table, which might also help break up the whole space.
If we weren’t having an extendable table, I’d have chosen a travertine type finish to the table top which is nice and light. I don’t like marble table tops as they feel cold to the touch to me and I run cold anyway.
all opinions welcome.
