In the loft, my DD found a parcel wrapped up carefully in old newspapers and string. We were quite excited to open it. It contained a random lump of wood. No idea about the significance of it. No clue in the newspapers.

Murder weapon?

A small box containing a pair of cuff links. Written on the box, ‘ happy birthday xxxxxxx, mon? Usual time place? Love J “.
Hidden at back of airing cupboard.

Hmm what was going on there?

I’ve just sold a house. Cleaned out the loft and I’ve found loads of old books from the late 1800s/ early 1900s. And 2 handwritten diaries from the 1930s - wish I could read the handwriting a bit better - the lady who wrote them was obviously counting down to something as she’d write “17 weeks to XXX”, 16 weeks etc but I can’t make out what.

Not sure what to do with them all.

Your county archive might be interested. I work in one and we have many diaries as well as handwriting experts.

There is a facebook group called family treasures reinstated where people track down descendents and return family photos/papers/objects so they might be worth a try.

@Judysdreamofhorses i would have had that signed photo of Danny Dyer framed and hung up in the downstairs toilet before I'd even started unpacking and moving in 😂😂 Love it

Poobs2022 · 05/05/2026 17:26

My sister found a ladies porn mag from the 90's on top of a wardrobe. It had us in stitches for weeks looking at it 🤣

Tryanalogue · 05/05/2026 17:28

A complete lack of light bulbs.

KermitTheToad · 05/05/2026 18:07

When we moved into our house 4 years ago there was a vanity sink in the 2nd bedroom. When we eventually removed it there was 3 x mens battery shavers lost behind it. Must have been from original owner as bedroom had belonged to a young teen prior to us buying house.

GidgetGirl · 05/05/2026 18:47

The loft of my house was FULL of the possessions of a man who had lived there between the 1950s and 1980s. The only entry to the loft was via a tiny hole in an upstairs cupboard so rather than get all the crap down, subsequent buy-to-let owners just left it all there.

It contained a small skip's worth of stuff - everything from clothes to false teeth. Also absolutely stacks and stacks of papers and letters. Turns out this man had run a weird culty Christian sect from the house (we also found his old calling cards). There were lots of very sexual and very religious letters to him from women, often clearly with some kind of intellectual disability. It was all extremely odd and sort of disturbing. My elderly neighbours had gone to his funeral in the late 80s - they said it was a strange affair with lots of standing in a circle and clapping.

Hundreds of women’s weekly magazines dated 1950 onwards in our loft, there’s probably more up there. Along with a letter from a dad to his daughter while he’s was away fighting in ww2 plus lots of Little toys and a photo of a priest

Did you get your husband to hit you on your bottom with the woman's weekly?

Danikm151 · 05/05/2026 19:03

My old house… when fixing the tv arial -in the loft was clothing rails from a shop and a n over bed tanning machine. We moved in 1992 so it must have been from the 80s!

Also on the shelf in the airing cupboard was the name Melissa - 1987

When we moved out I wrote mine and my mom’s name underneath and the years we lived there. I hope it’s still there… new tenants still have the same blinds and it’s been 8 years so probably is!

itsmeits · 05/05/2026 19:13

When my mum had the bay rebuilt we found newspaper shoved in between the bricks from when it was built. Mum put several back amd some new ones from that weeks paper.

Stripped a bedroom back in a friends house and found a full wall Thomas the tank mural.

In my kitchen, Chantelles homework for science in 2002! Poor girl did it and mush have fallen behind the kitchen unit. There was also a few photos of a dog and a teenage girl - maybe Chantelle 🤔
Lots of useless stuff in the loft.

My MIL writes on every wall before putting the last strip of wallpaper up how may rolls it takes. She found a note in the first house she lived in with the advise on the wall - note also slagged the neighbour (who still lived there) off who advised 2 rolls short 😂

Shorkie · 05/05/2026 19:14

We could see an old fashioned suitcase tucked right away into the crawl space in the loft, couldn’t get to it at first. I was hoping it would be a suitcase full of cash… devised a plan to get to said suitcase, only to find it was jammed full of old porn mags. sigh.
More so disturbing than interesting but we did have a good laugh about it and didn’t really know how to dispose of them.

Anonymum100 · 05/05/2026 19:50

A bag of ecstasy tablets, behind a kitchen panel. The previous owner was an old lady but I think she must have had lodgers as didn’t strike me as a raver.
Anyway that was my late 90s summer of love, pre-children of course. ❤️

BarbarianBabs · 03/05/2026 22:22

Pork 😂

🤣🤣🤣. Saucy pork too....wonder if it would be nice served with rice? 😂

Flannelfeet · 05/05/2026 19:52

Shoemadlady · 03/05/2026 22:19

We found some very very very old saucy (probably classed as pork back then but tame compared to stuff now) images in a shed on the garden of our Victorian home

🤣 too funny 😁

goodnessss · 05/05/2026 19:53

When we moved in to our current house there was vase full of dog shit in our garden left by the previous owners.

Flannelfeet · 05/05/2026 19:58

I found a sterling silver Charles rene mackintosh ring lodged between the shower and the wooden panels in my very first flat...it fit too but sadly lost it over the years.

Flannelfeet · 05/05/2026 20:07

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/05/2026 08:41

That's a bit of a let down...

😆 🤣

MandyMotherOfBrian · 05/05/2026 20:23

Yes, a very sharp Kukri, hidden behind the pipe work in the downstairs loo.
Lots of rooms with writing on the walls from the 1940s behind the wallpaper layers when they were removed.
Also (maybe not exactly what you mean) but.. a hidden doorway that had been blocked up, and a hidden cupboard that had also been blocked up….

Tryanalogue · 05/05/2026 20:34

The wartime blackout blinds are still up there.

Hope we don’t need them.

JaelsTentpeg · 05/05/2026 20:44

TheOnlyAletheia · 04/05/2026 08:44

A cat buried under the door threshold to ward off evil.

Was it OK?

Pudmyboy · 05/05/2026 20:46

Candy nipple tassels, still in the box. I still have them, not intending to try them on....
Edited to add: been in this house 10 years now so they would probably crumble away if I got them out of the box!

DiscoBeat · 05/05/2026 20:50

OMG some seriously weird things. A sex doll!! 😳
We did find a child's shoe from the 1800s in a wall when we made some repairs. Luckily no-one attached to it!

Dontknowwhattobelieve2 · 05/05/2026 20:52

A vibrator in the overgrown front garden.. only I didn’t find it, the window cleaner did the day after I moved in. I was outside talking to him about how much it would be, how often he’d come round etc. my mum and nan also in the front garden, neighbour in hers welcoming us to the street and he bursts out laughing “is that yours?”

Poor lass must have dropped it as she was moving her things out😭

ChamonixMountainBum · 05/05/2026 20:58

Lots of fully intact newspapers from the 1920s. Very much "Man loses bowler hat on train" type of headlines. Bit depressing seeing house sale adverts: "6 Bedroom House on Wandsworth CommCommon - £650 ono". One old school porn mag with 'Dawn, 28, from Doncaster" a Rubenesque lady with a bush like. Guardsman's hat.
