Occasional chair fatigue. One with a wooden frame.

What I really want is this loaf one but it’s over £1k and although it feels like very similar ones are everywhere I can’t find The One.

it’s very much an occasional chair, so being good for lounging is not the deciding criteria. And by the same token I’m not spending a grand on a chair to fill a space and be sat in twice a year.

the next one has the curved arm which I like, but the fabrics are a bit…nasty

the dunelm one is cheap but I’m less keen on the structural seat parts being fabric. Also it have a thing about visible screw holes

the ikea one is…cheap but otherwise doesn’t set my world alight

considering this kind of chair is all over the place I can’t quite find the balance of nice shaped frame, not chenille effect fabric (def no boucle either) and under £500 but hopefully nearer £300.

has anyone got a nice one they’d recommend?

Have you seen the M&S one? I can't recommend it personally but the M&S armchair I bought years ago is still great, for what that's worth.

The IKEA one is surprisingly good, would recommend.

That’s nice buuut the arms are a bit angular and it’s bloody chenille. Why’s everything chenille? Thanks though. It’s a contender as I like the price 😁

That’s good to know, thanks. I might go and have a look at one in real life

Another vote for the ikea one. Ours gets lots of compliments!

Woodfiresareamazing · 11/04/2026 06:49

If you like the style but not the fabric, it's fairly simple to recover the cushions.

IceBrownie · 11/04/2026 16:54

I saw an almost identical from Habitat, but it was second hand so might've been discontinued

WellOrganisedWoman · 11/04/2026 16:59

Looks like a mid-century Parker Knoll. Have you considered getting a second hand one? You could recover in whatever you liked.

MrsW9 · 11/04/2026 17:07

We have a wonderful secondhand Ercol chair like this. I often see similar in our local charity furniture shop.

AdjacentPossible · 11/04/2026 17:31

This is also exactly what I’m looking for OP 😄.

I quite like the Next and M&S ones.

I’d probably buy an Ercol Marino one if I could afford it.

It is but then I go to the fabric shop and fall in love with the £120 a meter fabric and everything else is an unbearable compromise 🤣

My DM has the next one. It’s incredibly comfortable and I love it.

🤣

Maybe it's easier to just buy the one you really love!

We have had some reupholstery recently. Like you I always go for expensive fabrics . I was recommended this shop and found something at a very good price …www.justfabrics.co.uk/products/blue-water-lillies-tapestry-fabric

newrubylane · 13/04/2026 12:44

Also, check La Redoute of you haven't already. They have a few options.

Pennyfan · 15/04/2026 08:22

I bought my son and DIL the Next one for Christmas-they wanted the high back one. It’s very elegant-I liked the fake leather one on display in the shop but they wanted the fabric one.

I think the tan fake leather Next one looks better than the fabrics.

user7666547 · 15/04/2026 08:26

I can’t see the exact one i have, but I bought one from here in 2024, and it’s perfect
