Has anyone used Hillary's Blinds? Would you recommend?

I've booked an appointment with Hillary's Blinds to look at getting blinds and shutters made for front windows of our house. Has anyone used them? Would you recommend? Can I ask if you thought it was good value? TIA x

I had several sets of blinds fitted by them. The man who measured and fitted them was smelly, scruffy and did not take the measurements properly. I was very disappointed especially as they were not cheap.

tooloololoo · 27/03/2026 19:41

Just ordered mine for £1600
i had a polite salesman and blinds measurer man

Dolphinnoises · 27/03/2026 19:42

They did our shutters, which are a thing of beauty

Magicisuponus · 27/03/2026 19:43

We had them in our previous home.
Nice salesman, accurate measuring, delivery on time - all fine really (but quite pricey)

TurtleGroove · 27/03/2026 19:43

10 years ago admittedly, but I had a landlord pay them a FORTUNE for shutters. They took ages to come, were poorly measured and ended up with a bit of a bodge job to get them to fit.
I’d use someone local.

Spirallingdownwards · 27/03/2026 19:43

I think it is the luck of the draw where you live. Where I live there is one guy who measures up and another who comes to fit.

They are both really nice and polite guys. I have bought from them a lot over the years but always when the sales are on. I have had roman blinds, curtains and venetian blinds. I am quite decisive and always have a good idea of what I am after as they do have loads of choice.

Sminty2 · 27/03/2026 19:56

Love all my shutters and blinds, they are beautiful and functional. I especially like that I don’t have to measure or stress about fitting. They just work.

Anjo2011 · 27/03/2026 20:00

We used them last year. Had used them about 10 years previously as well. Straightforward process, quick delivery time and well fitted, would def use them again.

CrustyBread1977 · 27/03/2026 20:00

I’ve used them in two houses in different areas and they’re brilliant.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 27/03/2026 20:36

Product quality and and price was ok however they initially quoted double the price and the did the hard sell and wouldn't leave me alone. I would ask for recommendations locally.

mynameiscalypso · 27/03/2026 20:54

We used them for blinds and curtains. Absolutely terrible quality. The curtains in two rooms weren’t put up properly so fell down, bringing the curtain rail with them too, causing a lot of damage. Bits of the blinds seem to be held up with Velcro and are always falling off. The blinds themselves break all the time.

cobrakaieaglefang · 27/03/2026 21:12

We had them when we moved in nearly 5 years ago and was very happy with the service and product.

slowlyswimming · 27/03/2026 21:19

Had shutters from them about 10 years ago and they were brilliant, still look brand new and are excellent quality. Measurer and fitter both lovely. Very expensive but it was a tricky window shape and we are really happy with them.

Also had Roman blinds about 6 years ago; they were expensive, lovely quality but kept falling off the Velcro at the top, and the chain things kept breaking. Replaced them about a year ago using a much cheaper local blind company.

MonChoufleur123 · 27/03/2026 22:47

Thanks all really useful - was specifically looking for Roman blinds, it doesn't sound like they are great although maybe shutters more promising? I'll ask around for a local company as well for another quote.

Blinds2go are brilliant. They are online but easy to follow their size instructions and you just get a handy man to fit them. They are really good value but still good quality and I would highly recommend.

Just to add- just seen there is a previous thread about blinds2go. (And no I do not have any association with them- I just have lots of their blinds in my house!)

We had a quote from them. It was very expensive and we’d chosen their cheapest, plainest range. We had another quote from a local company called Amanda for Blowing nds who were way cheaper with nicer designs.

Hillarys then bombarded us with phone calls offering discounts.

Villanousvillans · 28/03/2026 19:09

Try John Lewis. They’ve made my curtains and blinds and they are fabulous.

LeonoraLion · 28/03/2026 19:23

Hillarys are absolutely awful
Rude, messy and unhelpful fitters.
Non-existent after sales service
I'd give a zero star rating if it was possible
I'd go for a local company next time

lisa7843 · 28/03/2026 19:24

This is one of those situations where I really think it’s worth looking local. Get a quote from a local company as well as somewhere like Hillary’s and compare. If they’re competitive I’d give money to a local business hands down.

Anewerforest · 28/03/2026 19:25

I would go with a local company, with recommendations from people in your area.

ShallWeDance · 28/03/2026 19:29

Had some fitted today, probably the fourth or fifth set from them over the years.

Never had a problem with them.

ismiledather · 28/03/2026 19:39

Don’t know if it’s the case theses days but when they did mine the quote was lowered and lowered until I agreed.

MonChoufleur123 · 29/03/2026 19:13

Thanks everyone for the feedback - I will have a look for local companies.

We've recently renovated a derelict house and had quotes from Hillarys.

The man that arrived had a massive, leather case and multiple samples- nothing wrong with that, but it felt like a 1970's sitcom! The shutter price for just 1 front room, which has 3 windows, was nearly £2,000! He kept saying it would be a different price once priced up and we negotiated. Sorry, I don't want to have to barter back and forth for a better price!

We've since had a quote from a local company which seemed much more reasonable. I'd asked for local company recommendations on nextdoor.com in your area or a facebook group near you.
