Does anybody know about staircases dropping?

I moved into my house a year ago with my son, the house is 25 years old. Just recently I’ve noticed a gap between the wall and the stairs skirting panel. It looks to me as if the stairs are dropping but is this a thing? I’ve never heard of it happening. What do I do about this, if anybody has experienced this I would appreciate your view on it please 🙏🏻.

Yes yes, had it in my Victorian terraced many years ago. Got a carpenter round but can't remember what he actually did to stabilise it again. Not too expensive if I remember rightly. Soz.

Oh this is a bit worrying - do you have any other cracks anywhere else? 25 is not very old for a house so this is a bit odd.

I have some small similar cracks on my stairs but it’s just where it has been caulked and people have walked on the stairs - yours are much more significant.

I feel like it is more likely to indicate poorly installed stairs rather than a major structural issue though. Have you been under the stairs to have a look at what is going on?

Had this in my 1930-built house. Just needs a carpenter to reinforce them. Over time the treads get loosened from the risers but a carpenter can use little brackets or something to stabilise them. It’s not expensive.
