Wardrobe with just shelves no hanging rail

I really need a “wardrobe” that’s all shelves with no hanging rail but can’t find one I can afford.

I’ve searched linen cupboards, looked at free standing kitchen units but can’t quite find what I need for less than £1,500 and that’s too much.

Any suggestions for online retailers I might not have thought of appreciated, thanks.

Have you checked Pax by ikea? It’s completely customisable.

Have you looked at office cupboards? Some of them wouldn't look out of place in the home.

We have an ikea pax with just shelves. Alternatively, depending on the space available, you could go for a billy bookcase with doors

Try the Atomia range in B&Q. It’s fully customisable and the staff in there can help you design what you need so you know what to order.

Yeah, look at Ikea customisable wardrobes. We custom built what we wanted for the space so have half with double hanging space and a basket drawer at the bottom and half with shelves and a basket drawer in the middle.

Another recommendation for Pax-we had one with just shelves.

Thanks for all the pax recommendations, was hoping to avoid complete flat pack but seeming more like the only affordable option

Sharpes?

A number of antique linen presses on ebay at under £300 - add on £75 for a courier - most vendors are happy to liaise with one even if the listing says collection only

You could book Taskrabbit @Thatwaskindoffun they'll build it for you.

Buy a shelving unit and add doors?

Thatwaskindoffun · 15/02/2026 10:47

Thanks all.

Has anyone bought from Daals? They have a storage cupboard that kind of fits the bill but worried it’s style over substance.

I would assume it has shelves because they are calling it a cupboard but I would definitely message them to check because it doesn't say anywhere.

£1009.97 here, described as a display cabinet, possibly wouldn't meet your requirements though

Thatwaskindoffun · 15/02/2026 21:08

Thanks @Freya1542 doesn’t look like there’ll be enough shelves in it sadly from the Olivia’s link

Pax wardrobes go together quite easily but you do need a partner to help. Son and I put six into his flat (2 as wardrobes, 2 as utility and general storage cupboards, 2 as larders). We're still speaking to each other!

SlenderRations · 24/02/2026 14:05

Or buy an antique press for very little on eBay
