Linen bedding: what are your recommendations?

I just got a new bed, mattress and duvet and I need to get sheets. I really want to try linen bedding because I sleep hot, but given how expensive they are I don't want to make the wrong choice.

Companies I'm looking at:
Soak and Sleep
Rise and Fall
Secret Linen Store
Piglet In Bed

If there's any brand recommendations or particular sheets you have and love please tell.

Some concerns I have:
I saw reviews for all of these brands that were great, but some them did also mention pilling was an issue. Anyone experienced this?
And apparently linen bottom sheets get holes easily, did any of you find this to be true? Should I stick to cotton bottom sheets?

Thank you!

I prefer Egyptian cotton but an 800 thread count. I've had linen in the past and not found it as comfortable.

I would have thought sateen would be better if you sleep hot.

?

God I love ours, I think they came from Soak and Sleep. We have some Piglet pillowcases.
I don’t see any pilling but one of the fitted sheets did get holes in one side. I was blaming DH 😀
If you’re concerned about wear I wouldn’t necessarily bother with fitted sheets, the duvet cover and pillowcases make more difference. Linen feels both cool and warm, it’s drapey, dry and almost chalky?
Our cotton sheet sets don’t get much use anymore.

La Redoute also does nice linen bedding. I have used linen for years, and the only time we have had holes was just last week- our dog scratched holes in a bottom sheet. Sheer spite!

LinenMe is excellent but my favourite is Piglet.

I’ve just bought a duvet cover and pillows cases from piglet in the bed, last week. My life is literally changed they are the nicest things ive ever owned. I went for the linen cotton blend. I stuck with my normal cotton sheet as I couldn’t justify £100 on a bottom sheet.

I have linen bedding from Piglet in bed and Secret linen Store both lovely and as the poster above says they are just lovely and have really improved my sleep. I have picked bits up in the sale.

Ikea also do linen bedding. It's good quality and cheaper than most others (but still not cheap).

I have some from 100% linen piglet in bed and love them. No piling.
However when i had cotton bedding my go to was to wash at 60 often with a scoop of vanish for luck to get them really crisp clean and fresh.
I did this with a pillow case from piglet that had make up on it and the colour faded dramatically so wash at 40 and steer clear of vanish!
Although I did complain and they sent me new pillowcases so excellent customer service.
I only buy when on offer though as very expensive.
I also find they feel fresher longer so i dont change bedding as frequently (result!)

I wasn't overwhelmed by linen sheets, but silk sheets from Lilysilk, I recommend those.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 06/02/2026 18:29

If you want to just try them, then the ikea ones are way more affordable - give them a couple of good, hot washes to soften them up first (then iron them if you can be bothered.. I do sometimes and it is nice).

@EBearhug do you not have trouble with the quilt/pillows slipping off? The one time I tried a full silk set I kept waking up freezing because everything had slid away

GiantTeddyIsTired · 06/02/2026 18:32

Oh, cancel that. It doesn't seem to exist anymore. Glad I already have a couple of sets then!

EBearhug · 06/02/2026 18:41

They don't slip off for me, but I tend to be tucked in at the bottom and edges.

TonTonMacoute · 06/02/2026 18:51

I had some from Secret Linen, I liked them but the bottom sheet wore out really quickly. It wasn't worth the money, although it is now a linen blouse.

I have gone back to cotton.

I have two sets from Piglet in bed and one from Chalk Pink Linen co. The Chalk pink linen co is superior imo. I find the Piglet linen quite thin in comparison.
