What’s happened to my table?

I have a handmade coffee table in my sitting room, which we’ve had for about 20 years.

I give it a wipe over every few days with a cleaning spray and cloth.

My DD had some friends over at weekend. Drinking the usual, vodka, flavoured cider, etc.

When I cleaned the table yesterday with my usual spray, etc. there’s a yellow tinge to the cloth. I’ve cleaned it several times more, and this tinge just keeps coming off!

I’ve never oiled it or anything. I’m wondering if something has been spilled that’s stripping it of something it was treated with originally? I wouldn’t even know what that was, as it doesn’t appear varnished, etc.

More to the point, how do I stop it coming off? I feel like it will never be clean again!

If they spilled spirits over it, it may have stripped it?

@bathbum could your cleaning spray have changed it's formula?

I’ve tried two different sprays and both seem to be having the same effect. It’s just feels likes it coming off the full length of the table, so they have to have really split something, but the carpet was fine and they never said, and I never heard. I was aware of a drink spilled elsewhere in the room 😏

Would I be able to get it professionally cleaned and then sealed in some way?

If this keeps happening every time I wipe it, it will just always feel grubby to me .
