To panel or not to panel

I’m trying to just get on and finally make a decision about what to do in our bedroom and just get on with it but I’m really struggling with whether to do wall panelling on the wall behind the bed.

I do like the look of slatted panels, and also simple MDF panelling like shown in these pics (assume they’ll need some time to be approved), and they would certainly help with the fact the walls are not in great condition. They could really do with being re-skimmed but that’s not happening. If I was to pain the back wall a different colour to the others, I’d struggle to get a really neat finish on the corners due of the state of the wall. Not something I’d need to worry about with panelling.

But I’m worried I’ll regret panels, either straight away or in a year when I’ll think they look dated. Interested in others thoughts.

Following as I’ve been thinking the same. Considering panelling but fear I’m late to the party and it will look tacky in a couple of years.
