I need to finish off this room. I need lighting and a mirror. Where would you put the mirror? The navy wall or the other cream wall? Also what kind of light shade do you think I should use. Lighting is NOT my forte. Help me please 🙏

Sorry ignore my suggestion re the sofa, I have just checked the photos again and you only have one sofa.
COuld you try having the sofa on the long wall opposite the window and the two chairs facing it, side by side?
All at right angles to the TV?
The sofa looks so close to the door and not a very relaxing place to sit.

There’s not enough space to put it on that wall. I like where they are because I can lay on the sofa and face the tv.
just need the rug, some art and will toy with the mirror.

chat gpt is so good for this. I uploaded pictures of my awkward shaped sitting room and mocks up suggestions for finishing touches.

Mirror opposite window.
Art above TV
A large area rug
Some plants
At least one other side light
Some books

This plus add some warm colours to balance out all the cold colours for example in a plant pot, art or rug

You need a large area rug (large enough that the feet of your sofas will sit on it. Something neutral.

Id get some lampshades from Pooky / something that brings a bit of warmth into the space. I’d also look at changing your cushions on your sofas too.

Sorry I know you didn’t ask about those things..

Yeah I didn’t, they are new cushions. I’m happy with the colours. I purposely chose navy and blue. I’m not a lover of many colours tbh. Most other colours wreck my head. Greens blues and neutrals is where suits my eyes. Reds, oranges pinks fussy patterns are not for me.

I would add a few touches to give it the feeling of a bit more warmth - large rug, coffee table, plants. Instead of a mirror, consider another large picture on the bare wall, or several smaller pictures
instead.

I like the idea of a wooden light fixture to add some warmth to the room. Tom Raffield has some beautiful lights if budget allows - there are similar styles but the TR look so much better in real life.

Don’t hang your art too high either - than painting looks like it’s top have been matched to the level of the door frame. It doesn’t work for the eye - too far away from the sofa.

I just want to say thanks to those who have answered my questions. I know a lot of you have suggested adding “warmth”, but I love the colours chosen. Most warm colours (reds, oranges etc) and crazy patterns etc tend to make me anxious. I have mustard cushions in another room on a navy couch and I tend to sit there in the morning as I find the colour energises me at that time. But I’m not sure of them other times of the day 🤣.

I prefer to stick to calming neutral tones or blues/greens. I know it may not look it but the room is quite cosy (well it is to me) and once I find a nice rug. (Probably grey based with navy/blue in it I’m sure it will soften it up.

I hear you @Kitchenbattle and although I love loads of bold colour/pattern and have a house full of it, we do have slightly calmer colours where we relax watching TV. Our walls elsewhere are a mix of deep pinks, almost burgundy, greens and yellow as well as various blues (looks nicer than it sounds!).

But in our TV room (upstairs, the former main bedroom), we've colour-drenched in saturated turquoise with a similar coloured sofa and mainly green/blue cushions with the main pops of colour coming from the antique Persian rug and vintage 1980s Osborne & Little curtains.

It definitely has a more relaxing vibe than the downstairs snug which is all bright, crazy colours/patterns - but as that's mostly a place to read our vast collection of reference books, I like to feel alert and energised in that space 😉😁

Oooh I see…ok thank you. Would I need an electrician to install that type?

These ceiling fixtures are gorgeous. I was about to say that avoiding ceiling lights is often a very good idea. Light from straight above is very unflattering and up-lighting so much better.
