Fabric/ upholstery experts? Composition for sofa

Looking for a new sofa and want to get the fabric right. Bit confused about what composition is good vs what to avoid, for a young family. I've been looking at Love Your Home and what confuses me, is if you put on 'family filter' it comes back with fabrics like linen... but then fabrics which are composite, e.g. cotton and polyester aren't listed under family friendly.
My guess is some of them are stain resistant and some aren't... but what about general rub count and bobbling too? Is there an ideal composition? obvs not going to do 100% vintage linen.

We currently have polyester velvet which has been great .... I just don't like the look of velvet.

Some fabrics will have inherent properties that mean they are more or less fire retardant, stain resistant, durable etc. Others will be treated/backlined to improve their rating in these different criteria so it’s not necessarily the composition that makes the difference.
FWIW when I get loose covers made for my aging and somewhat tatty sofa (hence the username!) I’ll be using a plain washable linen - naturally fire retardant, decent martindale score, washable
