How to make very dark grey laminate gloor look less harsh

Our house has very dark grey flooring throughout the ground floor - kitchen, hallway, lounge and dining room. It was probably very fashionable 15 years ago but now looks dark and harsh.

Have put a very large rug in the lounge and when I find a long enough runner will get it for the hall. Are there any ways to kind of trick the eye away from such dark flooring? Or anything you've done in a similar situation?

Cannot replace it.

If you have kick boards in the kitchen you could change them for a lighter colour? Wouldn’t be too expensive or put down lighters under your cupboards. Look at ceiling lights too. Might give it a lift.
Rugs and runners are good ideas.
