Recommend me a nice pale sage paint?

We're after something a light sage-y for our living room but we're struggling and I'm fed up of wasting money on samples.

2 windows, south and north facing. It's quite a light room. We'll have a soft white on the ceiling.

We've tried Farrow and Ball Pigeon which turned out grey. Card room Green was too dark and muddy despite looking perfect online. In fact it looked so different to the pictures, my husband was convinced we bought the wrong colour. (We dont have a F&B budget but would have got them to mix a dupe).

Dulux Tranquil Dawn was too blue (like a pale duck egg). As was Lust Elderflower and Good Home Cardav.

Lick Green 01 is the closest we've found but it's not quite right. Maybe too yellow and a smidge too light?

Any suggestions?

Mellow sage by crown :)

sweetsadine · 23/11/2025 12:40

I wouldn't bother with F&B personally, most of my house is now painted using COAT paint, great quality and they have some lovely greens (Yard Party sounds close to what you're looking for). 20% off currently too

B&q’s own brand called Limerick is lovely!!

rubyslippers · 23/11/2025 12:41

Try farrow and ball old white
it’s a pale sage / grey / neutral (depending on light)

loobylou10 · 23/11/2025 12:45

Overtly olive is actually a lovely pale sage

CharlotteLightandDark · 23/11/2025 12:47

Omg I spent ages trying about 20 odd different types in my bedroom! We went with sweet cicely by fired earth in the end I believe

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/11/2025 12:48

Farrow and Ball Mizzle is like your picture on the right. Looks darker in this pic because it’s dull out but in the light it looks just like that.

We have sage by Johnstones in our hall, overtly olive in our bedroom and tranquil Dawn in our dining room

(It's not all green in our house!)

The sage one sounds like what you want

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/11/2025 12:51

A better pic, this is a fairly dark room though.

I was going to say the same. We've just bought Limerick to redo DS's bedroom now he is adult. Slightly grey, cool sage green.

Also had my eye on Johnstone's Natural Sage and Boulder Lichen.

That's a lovely colour.

Wickes do a nice sage - called sage! I'm using their paints all over my new house, I like the colours and the price is good. Found them to be just what I've wanted with none of the hype and massive price tags of f&b etc.

We have one wall Overtly Olive. Can’t take a photo as I’m not in the UK currently.

CharlieChaplin99 · 23/11/2025 15:21

We have a F&B Cromarty dupe on our North facing living room and north facing bedroom its a very pale sage green almost neutral shade subtle, calming, almost a neutral, easy to live with and a relaxing shade.

CoastalCalm · 23/11/2025 16:40

I’ve just had my bedroom done in tranquil dawn and don’t see any blue tones in it at all - I was originally going with overtly olive but it was too green for my wallpaper

paranoidmumdroid1 · 23/11/2025 16:44

We have Salix from Little Greene.

I actually looked at that but they didnt have any samples. B&Q is a bitch to get to. Wonder if I can get a sample from somewhere else?

Yeah, I dont know what is wrong with our light but it's definitely pale duck egg in our room. None of the colours match online. Not even close. I looked at so many pictures of Card Room Green online because £5 is a lot to spend on a tester. It just looks sludgy/muddy/khaki on our wall.

The wall we are painting onto has cream paint, admittedly it has yellowed a bit with age but it's still light and shouldnt be distorting the colours.

Also, F&B was horrible to paint with. It left loads of brush marks and took a few coats. Even if we had the budget, I still wouldnt buy it and would ask for them to make a dupe.

Another one suggesting overtly olive, we have it in our dining room and it my favourite room in the house.
We tried Limerick but felt overtly olive just had a bit more depth to it.

I’m came to say Cromarty - it’s a beautiful sage-y green. We got dulux to mix up a dupe

Whiteclaw · 23/11/2025 23:15

Overtly olive, or F&B Old White
