Fired earth alternatives?

ThisCyanQuail · 12/11/2025 19:27

Sod’s Law the tiles we had picked for our kitchen backsplash were from fired earth which is now no more. I can’t find similar using google image search sadly.

I have looked at mandarin stone but nothing quite right. Are there any recommendations for similar tile companies I can look at? Keen to get this job done before Christmas 🤞🤞

Any suggestions very much appreciated!

Do you have a photo of what you’re looking for?

Newmama4321 · 12/11/2025 23:16

Ooh I didn’t know it closed. Was only looking the other day

Lifejigsaw · 12/11/2025 23:24

Ah man I was in there a week ago picking tiles! They were selling a fortune amount to a young couple too and planning design visits with them, poor guys

user1471548941 · 12/11/2025 23:25

My tiles are Ca’Pietra and gorgeous!

ShaunaOfTheDead · 13/11/2025 03:44

The website implies that the situation is temporary, can you delay?

Netaporter · 13/11/2025 05:24

Which tiles are they? I’ve twice now bought the exact same tiles fired earth were selling from alternative suppliers. Different box, same tile manufacturer. Same tile. Much cheaper though!

FoxglovesAndLupins · 14/11/2025 17:15

It looks like fired earth have gone into administration and the reference to temporary means the administrators are on the hunt for a buyer for all or part of the business so no guarantee there will be one unfortunately.

A few years back we were going to buy 'cathedral limestone' floor tiles from Fired Earth but baulked at the extortionate cost. We found identical tiles from an eBay seller who was importing them to order from Egypt. They took a while to arrive, but were fantastic quality and a fraction of Fired Earth's price. EBay also often have FE tiles being sold by private sellers who have changed their minds/purchased too many etc, so might be worth a look @ThisCyanQuail.

Hello OP, we’re in a similar spot. We had a couple of the terrazzo tutti fruity style floor tiles from Fired Earth. Went back to the store last week and found out it had gone bust. I’ve looked at other terrazzo examples and they’re not quite the same. Also desperate to know the exact import/manufacturer.

(And this must be a thing – The tiles in our shower room are from Al Murad and I remember when we got them we once walked over to Topps Tiles opposite and they were selling the exact same time for twice the price)

ThisCyanQuail · 24/11/2025 10:07

These are the four I am struggling with in particular (not for the same rooms) . Feel like I have now done the grand tour of tile shops the south east looking for similar 😂😭 Sod’s Law as soon as we have everything planned and booked in they go bust .

Thank you so much for the alternative suggestions they are really helpful!

Ah, @ThisCyanQuail , so one of the tiles you were hoping to get is the Cathedral Limestone, same as us! We used it throughout a 36' x 18' kitchen space back in 2012. The samples we had from Fired Earth were exactly the same as those we got from eBay (British seller, importing to order from Egypt).

Unfortunately I can't recall the name of the eBay seller we purchased our limestone from now, but I just did a search for 'cathedral limestone' and there is a seller on there offering these, based in Suffolk (again, I don't remember where our seller was located). Their user name is 'thebigstoneco' and it looks as though you can buy samples for 99p, so that might be worth trying?

ThisCyanQuail · 24/11/2025 11:30

Thank you so much for this. I’m really grateful, as we also think they’re the perfect fit for our kitchen! Off to hunt down some samples now. Just need to sort the backsplashes, halls, and bathrooms next 😂

They were a very expensive company, so I can see why they went under with so many businesses struggling at the moment, but it’s still such a shame. Their tile range was fantastic—especially having so much variety all in one place!

Fired Earth has closed?

Oh goodness. I swear I used to spend half my life in there. What a shame.

I found the exact bathroom tiles you’ve posted and they were way cheaper. I’ll dig out the supplier tomorrow for you.

@Netaporter you are incredible!! Thank you so much!

Now beginning to question why I did not ask mumsnet for tile help before! Thank you all 😊

Claybrook Studio was set up by the original directors of Fired Earth. Their stuff is lovely too

Thenamechangecometh · 24/11/2025 21:49

Floors of stone, part of devol kitchens, were so so so lovely to deal with, and have great choice of limestone. And a few nice tiles but pricey.

No probs. They had a plain dark grey basalt tile that I got the tiler to cut down and I used them as a border. It looked lovely. There was a pale grey special order grout by Mapei which worked really well too.

MycroftSholmes · 24/11/2025 22:27

Try quorn stone, and genuinely sad to hear Fired Earth has gone under - was a quality place 😥

ProseccoPie · 10/12/2025 19:32

It’s just been bought out by Topps Tiles, the lovely man in Hyperion tiles said he thinks he can still supply their stuff
