Mixing metals in a kitchen?

FedUpWithDilemmas · 08/11/2025 15:56

I am having a steel sink - I need to know I can put hot pans etc straight into it.

Does this mean the other metals should be silver?

I was going to have a brushed chrome tap/ handles, but the kitchen designer suggested a bronze against the cupboards. I agree, they seem to work nicely, but can’t think how it would work with the kitchen:

Steel sink- brushed chrome tap- brushed chrome handles

Steel sink- brushed chrome tap- bronze handles

Steel sink- bronze tap- bronze handles

??

It's the Carrera kitchen in NCS s-4005-Y50R (colour looks different in real life. It looks really dark on my screen)

I usually don't like kitchen hardware to look too "piece-y", but the link is to Carrera Cashmere.

If that's what you're getting, I think the bronze would look good there.

I can choose the colour of my units. My DSis lives in Denmark and I love her kitchen and am copying the colour of her units 🫣😆

This? If so, yes to bronze!

I'm not a fan of matchy matchy. We have a stainless steel sink and a gold tap in our kitchen. Looks fab!

Yes! It looks so dark on the screen, but in real life is a warm cosy colour.

Do you think bronze hardware would look ok with a stainless steel sink?

With a different cabinet colour, I probably would have said chrome (or brushed nickel) with a stainless steel sink.
But NCS s-4005-Y50R will be a much larger area of colour in the space and it suits bronze. I have a feeling that's why the designer suggested it.

An article from some kitchen designer said the in thing is to mix, which only matters if you're bothered about that. Me, I'd say do whatever you like. Maybe consider some cupboards with no handles at all=a lot of people seem to like these and you'll never be fixing them at midnight because someone's half pulled it off,

ShrubRose · 09/11/2025 00:24

OP, have you seen a sample of the bronze that was suggested? Just wondering about the finish.

Like this. Brass, not bronze!

I don't want to muddy the waters, OP, but I think the colour of the antique brass finish from The Handle Studio is a bit heavy, and the undertone is wrong for NCS s-4005-Y50R.

If that's the range recommended by the kitchen designer, I would even consider their Satin Nickel colour. I think it would work with NCS s-4005-Y50R as well as with the stainless steel sink.

There were only 3 colours in that style that I saw. I will go back and ask about satin nickel. Thank you

Hello, OP.

Wondering if you have settled on a hardware choice.
So many decisions in a new kitchen!

I thought this was going to be a galvanic corrosion related question.
