Terrible at housey stuff and needing help on step one of bedroom decorating…
These are they existing wardrobes. Are they horrid or ok enough with a repaint.
Built in, but not amazing quality. Got a quote for carpenter to replace with really nice ones but will cost lots.
thanks in advance for any help.

They’re fine! I would keep them.

Can you not just build up to the ceiling and replace the doors.

Or alternatively, use wicker baskets to extend the space (and get rid of the suitcases), paint the doors and out nice handles on them.

Meredusoleil · 31/10/2025 20:48

I think they are fine as they are. Just fill the empty space above with some nice storage boxes and you're good to go!

Joeninety · 31/10/2025 20:58

If they work nicely, I'd keep them and maybe just freshen up with paint and new handles ?

SeaAndStars · 31/10/2025 21:18

Changing the handles would transform them.

GoodQueenBess · 31/10/2025 21:21

I think they're great. Would love to have them.
I'd change the handles for something more modern.

I'd put put something easier on the eye in the top bit.

This is it. Build up to the ceiling, new doors and a bit of crown moulding / coving up where they meet the ceiling and they'll be perfect.

They look great, paint them with French Chic paint and put nicer boxes at the top 🔝

Marble10 · 31/10/2025 21:26

I’d just paint and replace the handles if on a budget, which will make a lot of difference!

Thelankyone · 31/10/2025 21:27

I’d have a carpenter make the top cupboards lining up with the wardrobe doors. And then paint and redo the handles. I’d be doing a sort of griege or french green with brass handles.

Terrytheweasel · 31/10/2025 21:29

Agree. New handles and baskets above. Colour is fine but you could paint a complimentary shade to the walls.

Chinsupmeloves · 31/10/2025 21:32

Absolutely fine and if you want to change the colour you can, different handles. Xx

Gosh thanks all. I really honestly appreciate the time you spent replying. Yes I will investigate just the doors and top doors option. The inner bits are fine enough. And thanks for actual paint suggestions. I do
so struggle with this sort of thing. Dare I ask how you feel about panelling the bedroom walls….??? It always looks beautiful online but what is the reality??

I wouldn't bother.
It's a fashion that is fastly becoming overly done. Plus you'll spend your life dusting them.
When you want to take them down you'll probably have to have the wall replanted to undo the damage.

Could you paint the rooms door ? I think it would help with the definition of the room .

Do you mean a statement colour? That's a good idea, the bedroom door is more attractive than the wardrobe doors so good idea to make it more obvious.

But agree with everyone of the wardrobes are functional then keep them, get some attractive new handles, get matching cupboards above (shouldn't be a big job) and repaint in the same colour as the walls. Then statement door and architrave colour and it'll look gorgeous.
