Very Compact - Mid-Century-style sofa - 2 seater

Any advice please on how to find a very compact sofa?

I had a lovely one in mind but it is clear it won't fit - and this is at the front of mind today as to get rid of the old sofa which the previous owners left, the rubbish clearance guys had to saw the top off 😂

The entrance door is narrow - 800mm wide - and there is a sharp corner in the entrance hall which means the sofa will need to be stood on its end to get around - so max 1.9-1.95m tall.

Ideally mid-century style (1960s) on wooden legs to make the room look more spacious and fit with the age of the flat.

Maybe another benefit of having wooden legs is that they can be fixed after it is in situ?

Any suggestions please? Thanks

Oh what a lovely one - I do love an Ercol - but that is a lot over my budget.
I'll need to go with an imitation

John Lewis Arlo. Really trim front to back, and we find it comfy.

See what ikea have. Their sofas are flat pack. We had one nearly ten years and took it apart twice to move. The used to do a ver mcm one with wooden arms but have a lot that would suit that look.

If getting the sofa in is the problem, there are specialist delivery companies who will take arm off to get it through a door or along a corridor and then replace it so that you’d never know it had been done. I’ve used one called Sofa Assist (London area https://www.sofaassist.com)

I was going to suggest IKEA Ekenaset but it looks like they’ve discontinued the sofas (but still do the armchairs). EBay may be your friend but this turned up in my search for it; not convinced it’s as comfy as Ekenaset but similar mid century vibe and same sort of price.

I think Ercol are often too deep for small spaces.

Thanks! Looks like a possible option - do the legs come off?

I was also interested in the Ekenaset. I think I'll go with a couple of their armchairs alongside the sofa....

We have an Ikea Ekenåset sofa and armchairs in our house in France and they are brilliant. Super comfortable and really compact. Unfortunately it does look as though the sofa has been discontinued though.

There was also this Ercol sofa….quite a bit cheaper and I think smaller.

We have also had Ikea Landskrona sofas. Again very comfortable and compact, but a different vibe to the Ekenåset and the Ercol.

Ikea Landskrona

If you do look at Ikea you can see both the size of the sofa and the size of the packages that it comes in, just scroll down to Weights and Measurements, then on the pane that opens, scroll down and click Package Size. We found that very helpful for knowing if you could get stuff in our car or van but it should help you decide if you could manipulate the boxes into the room.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

LANDSKRONA 2 seater sofa, Gunnared dark grey, 48.86 kg - IKEA UK

The cover’s soft finish and the tight fit gives this sofa a perfect balance between its comfort, functions and look. 10 year guarantee.

Sorry, that Ercol link just won’t play!

Try a search on 766/2 Ercol on Etsy to see it. It was £450.

Another vote for the Ekaneset if you can find one secondhand, it was the only thing that fitted our space, we love the look of it, it is sturdy and seats two comfortably.

PancakesForElephants · 28/10/2025 17:45

@bickering I've recently ordered from swyft and these people www.mycozmo.com (also flat pack) because of similar issues and not liking the IKEA options that fit, not arrived yet though :(

menopausalmare · 28/10/2025 17:49

It's my birthday today and I had this one delivered.
Fenwick, Pinter. 2 seater in green boucle.
I'll sort a link.

GlasgowGal2014 · 28/10/2025 17:50

I've had this saved on my Etsy Wishlist for a while: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1098524747/danish-vintage-model-55-velvet-mid?ref=shop_home_active_6&sca=1&sts=1&logging_key=302511afdf26e402ccffc79cdaf9c4c6d28ce6d4%3A1098524747

It's a shame that the Ikea Ekaneset sofa has been discontinued because that was my other suggestion.

bickering · 29/10/2025 07:41

Thanks all! I’ll check those out 😊

Edited

Yes our delivery people actually removed our sash window to get ours in, and out when we moved.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/10/2025 08:25

We’ve just ordered 2 Ercols for very specific small spaces. Obvs cost our life savings! If you can afford Ercol type investment, then visit a dealer with your measurements and ask for their advice.

Look on Vinterior for original ones. You can search by size etc

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 30/10/2025 08:32

Swyft do sofas that come in pieces and you assemble it in your house. A friend has got one and it's very comfortable
