Giving up on farrow & ball

I feel like I’ve tested pretty much every white and white-adjacent colour they have available in the tester pots and simply can’t seem to find the right one. I know it’s probably me and that I should just make a decision and get on with it, but wondering if anyone else has been in this predicament, and if so, where you looked next?

You may be expecting too much from white paint..

Barrenfieldoffucks · 05/10/2025 19:23

I stick with Little Greene tbh, far prefer the quality.

CharlieKirkRIP · 05/10/2025 19:24

Little Greene is far superior.

I am in WAY too deep to entertain this option 😂

We had this issue and it wasn't just farrow and ball, we went through so many testers from other brands as well. White/off white is so bloody hard to pick as you just can't tell from the tester what the overall effect will be.

After a couple of disasters during which we nearly divorced (lighthearted...although it didn't feel it at the time!) we went with the very boring Timeless. It's fine and looks nice enough but it's not the rich expensive looking white I envisioned. Tbf we didn't look at Little Greene.

Little Green or Dulux Trade.

ThePoetsWife · 05/10/2025 19:53

Try Dulux Heritage - fab quality for the price

You want Paint & Paper Library. Trust me. They are the home decorating gods. They are what Farrow & Ball want you think they are.

Stormyday34 · 05/10/2025 19:55

I am yet to discover a room where Ammonite (F&B) doesn’t look good

TMMC1 · 06/10/2025 12:08

Look at Mylands, Zoffany or Paper and Paint library.
Buy the fan decks and stick them on and take photos in different light.

Thanks everyone - taking a look at all these other options now!

Benjamin Moore has so many more colours than F&B, so also worth a look.

If any of the F&B whites were close but not quite right, it's worth googling dupes and seeing what shows up.

Definitely Paint & Paper Library and Little Greene (same owners/founders I believe). Especially for off whites.

I have Chaste (p&p) in lots of rooms, it’s a lovely warm white without being too yellow or browny. Linen Wash (LG) is also lovely. If you want something cooler try Shirting or Slaked Lime.

C8H10N4O2 · 06/10/2025 14:40

Echoing the upvotes for Little Green and Benjamin Moore and the “meh” for Farrow and Ball. The paint quality is on a different level in terms of coverage and durability.

If you are trying to find a soft white which works in pretty much every aspect of room have a look at Slaked Lime. It is soft without being too cold or too warm in pretty much every place I’ve tried it.

Thank you for all the tips!

Little Green as posters have already suggested or Zophany.

BeaTwix · 06/10/2025 20:10

I didn't do an off white but I did other colours from Little Greene and am really really happy with them.

My off white success was fresh dough from Leyland. It's got a pinky red undertone and worked really well in the space I chose it for.
