It’s for the lounge room - very occasional sleeping.

I prefer a “cosy” sofa and aiming for green or blue velvet I think. Either need an option to buy a matching sofa, or needs to be a corner/chaise one. Ease of setting up into a bed is important.

have looked at Swyft Model12 but can’t try out that model anywhere. I suspect it will be more firm than I’m aiming for but that might be necessary for sofa beds?

budget up to £3.5k - I want it to last

Mine is from DFS, but it is very firm as a sofa. Everyone who has used it as a bed says it's great. I want able to find one that was a soft sofa and then a really comfy bed, we prioritised the bed element in the end. GL.

You have a great budget! I have a Laura James dark green one arriving tomorrow but it was only £340 so probably not what you are looking for.

Ooh I’ve been looking at a Laura James Una sofa bed for months. Please report back as to what you think of it.

Following as we need one too. Not 3.5k though.

We have the Swyft Model 08 and it is firm but easy to use. I’m not sure I’d want it as my main sofa though (it’s in the spare room).

Carzycat · 29/09/2025 22:34

That’s the total budget for sofa plus sofa bed or corner sofa bed. Happy to spend less but I’m downsizing on divorce to a 2nd floor flat so hoping to find something that will last.

DFS ones are ok just make sure you pay to upgrade the foam.

ShoveItUpYourArseMargaret · 30/09/2025 06:57

I have a cocoon sofa bed it is amazing as a bed but not very good as a sofa - it is just not deep enough.

ShoveItUpYourArseMargaret · 30/09/2025 07:12

...also, while the quality of the actual sofa and bed elements are second to none the Cocoon cushions are more like an after thought, they are overfilled with a really cheap stuffing bag– like one of those really basic duvets that doesn't even hava a proper cover.

Itshardsometimes · 30/09/2025 13:26

Interested in this too! The Swyft ones look beautiful, would be interested in how they are to sleep on!

It arrived today! It looks beautiful but is in my new house and upstairs eventually (they only deliver to hallway) so mum and I have dragged it upstairs. No one will sleep on it until mid October but will report back.

The ikea vimle corner sofa bed is pretty comfy. Has a large lift ip
chaise lounge end for bedding storage also. You can buy in modules so add extra middle sections if you want larger also.

For almost all ikea sofas you can order bespoke covers elsewhere if you want a certain colour or fabric.

It's a few years old so not current stock, but the bed action is like this one . You grab a soft handle at the back of the sofa, pull and the whole thing unfolds itself. It's very sturdy.

Been thinking some more about this. I’ll have a spare room so the extra bed will only be if my (adult) son and daughter stay at the same time - maybe once or twice a year. Maybe I should get a super comfy sofa and one of those high self inflating airbeds

That sounds sensible. Or if you might only need a single you could get a footstool that folds out to a single bed?

I may be in the same position and am dreading it. I try to get excited aobut having a nice home becasue my husband didnt work towards us having that

Paaseitjes · 25/02/2026 12:23

How often will you use it as either a sofa or a bed? We have a full bed height queen size air bed with built in pump which is amazingly comfortable, much more so that any sofa bed I've ever slept on. Bonus is you can take it with you if you visit someone who has a rubbish sofa bed ;) You then get full choice of normal comfortable sofas.

Hi , guess you may not see this now. Can you tell me how you found Swyft in general? Customer care etc? Do you think their other sofa beds would be softer? Any tips whatsoever would be wonderful..Thanks in advance

user593 · 21/03/2026 17:50

@RememberBeKindWithKaren The delivery team were awful and damaged my home bringing it in. Customer service was useless but after I left a TrustPilot review the owner contacted me directly and I was compensated very swiftly. I can’t actually comment on the sofa bed itself as we’ve not had guests yet, but it’s easy to unfold. It is hard to sit on though. They stock Swyft in some John Lewis so perhaps if you’re near one you could try them out in person? I sat on a few in John Lewis and I thought they all felt similar.

Ours has a thin mattress after a few years but we bought an extra deep 4 inch topper with great reviews (Dunelm) and keep it in the loft to pop on it when we have guests.

OneSplendid · 20/04/2026 10:45

That's a genuinely good hack, and the "pop it on for guests" part is smart — means the topper itself doesn't get compressed from daily use. A deep topper will mask a lot of sins on a sofa bed mattress. Thanks for the tip, I'll pass it on.
