Recliner sofa

Can anyone help me please. Would like to buy a recliner sofa, but everytime we buy something it ends up being rubbish quality. We dont have loads of money so its a big purchase as what we get we would probably then have to have for the next 8 years so desperately dont want to pick the wrong one.
Im even doubting if a recliner would be more trouble than its worth more things to go wrong with them etc.
The last sofa we bought was from SCS and its shocking bad quality so definitely don't want to make the same mistake again.
Has anyone got a recliner they have had for a few years now and still good as new?
Any recommendations? Thanks

We have an electric one. Once you've had a recliner you'll never go back, they're so comfortable. We had ours for about 6 years before we had an intermittent issue with the motor on one side, which cost £170 to replace, which I thought was ok, considering the cost of a new sofa. So they are repairable if things do go wrong.

It took the guy about 10 mins to replace so it's probably something you could do yourself of you for the parts, which were about £50.

We did take out the extended cover which covered mechanical failure for up to 5 years.

The manual ones seem more prone to getting damaged to me as there use cables etc that wear more I think.

We got one from Darlings of Chelsea about 10 years ago. Ex show room model so we got about 50% off, still going strong, lasted longer than my marriage.

I have a leather one from Ego Italiano. It's been 5 years and it's still very good.

It plugs in but can be unplugged most of the time as the battery charges up. This way we don't need wires trailing.

We’ve got one it was from an independent company that stock the G.plan ones. Ours is so comfy.

The same as @Autumnlife G Plan electric recliners from an independent local company. We have a 2 seater and a 3 seater. Is it beautiful? No, but it is incredibly comfortable. Sadly it was costly, looking at it now the 3 seater is £2.4k. The 2 seater isn't much less but the longevity helps offset the cost.

We bought electric ones as Ds2 wasn't strong enough to be able to push the manual ones down with his legs or restrain the force when you pull the level to recline them. He was only 11 at the time. He is now 19. We have had them 8 years.

They are still in really good condition both fabric wise and frame wise. There is no dent in the seat area visually but you can feel a slight "preference" area when you sit in the middle of the 3 seater, it just feels a bit firmer. Dh and I sit on the 3 seater, there are 2 seat cushions each recline. Nothing like other sofas I have had that absolutely sank. I think the frame is guaranteed for 20 years.

I’ve got a La-Z-Boy recliner (funnily enough from SCS) and it’s still going strong 8years down the line. Very comfortable too.

I’d recommend parkerknoll. They make fantastic quality recliners.

The website is absolutely terrible though.

Thanks so much everyone lots of good advice we have a look at the suggestions.
@RaspberryFeet Ive heard that brand was good but the one on furniture village by them has a bad review. Maybe it was a one off.

They are a really good brand. The original as far as I know. And everything is made in the uk.

I have the GPlan Seattle electric recliner. I've had for six years now and no problems at all, even though I am heavy. I have a bad back so much so that I check out holiday homes etc to look at their chairs and instantly know if its going to be uncomfortable for me or not, can't wait to get back home to my recliner!! You could try facebook marketplace for second hand, or warehouse type places for slight seconds as Gplan are expensive. I would not hesitate to buy one again. I had marks and spencer ordinary sofas before and they didn't last

I’m sat on the same sofa as you and it’s so comfortable they are worth every penny. I’ve also got the GPlan Jackson in the other room which we didn’t get in the recliner and it’s even more comfortable than the Seattle.

morden123 · 29/09/2025 07:58

Autumnlife - will check out the GPlan Jackson as I need another chair after some building works, thank you

We’ve got Natussi electric recliner settee and chair in brown leather that we purchased from furniture village about 8 years ago. They were £5k. I believe the cheaper end of natussi have a bad rep but the more expensive ones are better.
We’ve had a couple of intermittent issues with the buttons shorting which was sorted under warranty. Very comfy and still look great apart from cat scratches!!

It cradles you I originally wanted the Jackson over the Seattle but a Jackson was too big for the living space in my old house. We opted for the Seattle as it was very similar in style. When we moved I bought a clearance Jackson was in the colour I wanted for my room and at such a massive discount I was delighted with it.

openmicdrop · 29/09/2025 23:40

Ha! I recently bought the Gplan recliner after trying it out in our local Furniture Village. Very pleased that there are so many positive comments on here about it. Just waiting for it to be delivered - but it was a great try out in the showroom
