I have a high deep cupboard, I am 5'4", and need to utilise the space wisely. Think I need some steps i can pull out. Maybe some shelves to the left and right with the steps going in the middle?? What do you guys reckon?

Oh, it's in my bedroom, not kitchen.

How thin is it? I was wondering if shelves with pull out trays might be handy? What are you wanting to put in there?

Can your hands reach the top shelf? Are the shelves adjustable?

MJShell · 21/09/2025 15:33

There are no shelves atm. Just a rail at the top.

It's very deep, got old birthday bags, wrapping paper, bags, books games etc

I thought maybe a shelf at reach up height and storage you can pull out. Haven’t seen a cupboard with steps but it sounds like a really good solution yeah

Here are some pics if it helps.

I'd put shelves in it, and use the top shelves for storing things you rarely use.

I have a little stepladder BEKVÄM beech, stepladder, 3 steps - IKEA UK.

Looks like an old airing cupboard but the cistern has been removed?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/09/2025 20:46

I have a cupboard exactly like this @MJShell - it's sort of over the stairs? Mine has two shelves in it, and I have to stand on a chair to reach the top shelf. It's very deep, so things at the back aren't visible or particularly accessible. I've not worked out how to arrange it ....

I have a cupboard like this too, Ive not worked out the best way to use it either!

We have one of these in DS’s room. It had shelves at the back where we stored blankets and old things we didn’t use much. Now we’ve taken off the door and are turning it into a hideaway space for DS to hang out in and read - or play on his devices, more likely!

By steps you can pull out, I thought you meant something really complicated that was integrated into the cupboard and then magically rolled out 🤦🏻‍♀️

Agree about Bekvam, and it comes with a hook that’s pretty easy to mount on a wall or the back of a door. Or for just 1000% more:

(My friend does have this and to be fair, it’s much faster to open)
