Front door disaster, just painted front door to what was a deep dark blue to find after 6 coats it’s leaning to a bright teal and just can’t live with it.

i am struggling to find a genuine heritage deep dark blue and would be grateful for any paint recommendations as well as photos of your examples to help me find
the right colour. Water based paints please.

many thanks in advance

Oh no, how disappointing for you!

I don’t know what counts as heritage blue but this is Rust-Oleum Evening Blue in their matt garden paint. I did it in April this year, knew a matt finish was a bit optimistic for exterior - it’s holding up ok but a crack has reappeared where there’s a join in the wood. However, I could’ve used a better filler so who’s to blame?

I impulsively bought F&B Hague Blue full gloss to redo it and it was hard to see where I’d applied the tester, it’s a very similar colour. But haven’t done it yet as I don’t want my neighbours to think I’m insane. Can we form the Midnight Front Door Repainting Club?

Have you tried Benjamin Moore Hale Navy?

Get down to a Brewer's Decorating Centre (or any other Zinsser stockist) and buy this:

Change the colour group to blues and/or dark blues and there should be one in there, e.g. RAL 5002, 5003, 5013, 5022 etc. They will mix it up for you and off you go.

I have used this exact paint on a composite door and it was pretty nice.

My front door and windows facing the street are painted in RAL5004. It was matched to the colour they were before. It’s a deep navy blue with no teal or cobalt undertone. I don’t have a photo of my door, but here is an example from google.

Another vote for Zinsser paint - my front door is a decade in and has only just started to show a touch of fade from the lovely dark blue colour (RAL5004) it is all painted.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and images. The Zinnsser RAL5004, Rails and Hale Navy all look good options. Fingers crossed for round two of painting the door. If this doesn’t work out, I’m painting it black!
