If you decorate your house for autumn, have you started yet? Or do you wait til later in September?

We’ll be doing ours over the next couple of weeks, it takes a while as we do the whole house. We’ll be using what we already have, but I also add a few new things each year so I’m looking for some nice bits to buy. Have you got your eye on anything in the shops?

I’ll be doing mine in a couple of weeks. I’ve just bought some nice Autumn coloured throws, a wreath and a couple of garlands from Dunelm. They’ve got some lovely things so have a look.

I forgot, I’ve also ordered a table centrepiece and some wooden pumpkins from Very.

Following for decor inspiration. Please post pictures!

I have some pumpkin tea light holders I bring out for Halloween. That's it. They were made by a local pottery. The consumerist culture of buying cheap tat made in China to decorate your house for the season is really depressing.

I’m also going to Ikea at the weekend so will see what they have. 🍂 🎃

They didn’t have much when I went but I have ordered a little set of pumpkins and a candle online.

My partner just bought us these which we’ll mostly use for soup

I got a pumpkin table runner, napkins and an autumn design throw in Next. I’ll be decorating at the weekend. I love Autumn.

As it’s meteorologically Autumn I’m gearing myself up for a trip to my storage unit to try and find where on earth I put my decs from last year. I think they went into a box that the Xmas decs came out of. Which means one of a couple dozen boxes! But I want to do it. It’s just a few garlands of silk autumnal foliage and crochet pumpkins made last year.

FluffyWabbit · 03/09/2025 11:25

I would love to see pics of everyones autumn decor. I have never decorated for autumn but will be doing so first time.

Bought a few things from the Range but I don't know how I feel about putting out my little new and sparse collection!

LibertyLily · 03/09/2025 15:57

I don't do autumn decor as such (so no wreaths/garlands/fabric pumpkins), but have always put out some Halloween decs a few days before 31st Oct and which then stay up till Bonfire Night - even now that it's just me and OH at home.

Last year I almost didn't bother as we completed on our sale/purchase in mid September and as this place is a(nother!) project, it seemed a bit pointless. I'd also sold the majority of it, just keeping a few favourites.

However, OH persuaded me to decorate as usual and I was pleased he did as it cheered up the dated interior we had 'inherited'. A year on and the project is nowhere near finished - it's actually a lot worse now! - but I'll be trawling through the garage in a few weeks to find the Halloween bits!

Here's some pics from last year for @FluffyWabbit

I started mine today and thought it was ridiculously early. I love autumn though and it’s a bit of a pick me up for the kids now the summers over and they’re back in school. I didn’t really have much stuff to decorate with until the last year or two and used to wait until closer to Halloween, but it’s only up for a couple of weeks then so managed to justify starting it early. The kids have got their Halloween bed sheets on to come home to and we made autumn wreathes yesterday which we’ve put round the house

Imperfectpolly · 03/09/2025 16:17

I have changed over my flowers already.
I have a big pumpkin doorstop out.
I'll probably buy new candles soon.
Other than that, it will just be Halloween decorating in October.

My house is sort of autumnal already with rust orange couches and stools.
