Winter Curtains

My grandparents used to change their curtains to more thermal, heavyweight ones in autumn through to until early spring. It for me thinking, do people do this regularly? How do you store curtains without them creasing badly? Is it worth changing them over? We have blinds up at the windows too, so I don’t know if we will save money (factoring in the cost of winter curtains).

It was normal before double glazing, because it was necessary to keep the cold out. As a child, we had heavy interlined curtains that went up, the last week in October and came down in April. The light cotton ones were washed and stored for the following spring.

Double glazing made it less important.

Creasing wasn't a problem because winter curtains are heavy enough to pull themselves straight with hanging, and summer ones, you just iron them.

I have muslins that I hang in summer if my main curtains need to be dry cleaned. Otherwise, I use the same curtains all year. They are too expensive to duplicate for every room.

Interesting thought.
My preference is for full length curtains but they block the radiators, so I have been thinking about swapping. Actually bought a pair of pre owned heavy interlined bedroom curtains on eBay to try.

An alternative is to add hook on thermal linings to existing curtains just for the winter.

We’ve not changed the window yet in our living room we moved in last winter and it was so cold with thin curtains up and a wooden flooring. We’re about to get a carpet fitted and I’ve got some heavy thermal lined curtains so hopefully will notice a difference this year. Storing the curtains I’ve got them folded up in the wardrobe and that where I’ll put the thinner ones whilst they’re switched over.

@OldYorkMum we are the same. Windows at 168cm wide, but due to the radiator we have 137cm drop rather than full length.
