Where can I find a very comfortable, but very small, reading chair?!

I have a quiet corner (just the one sadly!) in my house that I like to sit and read in. I currently have this chair, which I like the look of and which fits size-wise, but it's not very comfortable.

Does anyone have any suggestions for other comfortable, but small, chairs please?

Can you get to an Ikea to try some? They have a huge selection. We’ve got the sofa version of this and it is compact and very comfy.

Dunelm sell small armchairs. Think they've got a sale on too, so I'd check there.

We have what is called a nursing chair. It’s Edwardian and really comfy. Picked it up at auction for twenty pounds or so. It’s worth looking at vintage antique auctions in my experience… we gave quite a few very small Victorian chairs that are low to the ground and quite small. I’ll send a pic when I’m home.

Ercol old-fashioned armchair with the wooden frame, very comfy. If money is no object and you want new then Parker knoll and g plan do small armchairs and are always ridiculously comfortable.

Agree. Have a lovely chair (that reclines) that used to belong to my great grandmother.

Had it re-upholstered and it’s fabulous.

Really comfy and not too big.

Vintage furniture is so much better made imho and you’ll get so much more for your money.

The Soho Home Theodore armchair is small and very comfortable. Not cheap though, sadly.

Thank you for the replies. I can get to ikea but I don't think anything will be small enough - you can't really tell from the picture just how small my chair is.

I love the look of that @username007008- thank you - but I don't want to spend that much on a chair that only I sit in.

Perhaps auction/vintage is the way to go. I hadn't thought of that so thank you - I'd love to see your pics @StillFeelingTired

Thanks for all suggestions :)

My old Ercol rocking chair is even more comfortable than the armchair and is surprisingly compact

A vintage Ercol or Joynson Holland type chair, you can buy them from Etsy already restored. example

OldYorkMum · 31/08/2025 20:48

look for a vintage chair with wooden arms, as they tend to be narrower, or a fireside/wingback chair.
