Interested to know how much people have paid and what the money went on?

And yes I know it is a 'How long us a piece of string question?'

What are you doing? Just replacing cabinets and surfaces? All new appliances? Moving any pipes or sockets? Flooring?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/08/2025 20:02

You need to provide dimensions of the kitchen.

PollyHutchen · 27/08/2025 20:06

Replacing cabinets and surfaces. New flooring. New oven and fridge freezer. Work on adjoining utility room so washing machine can be plumbed in. New sink there. Sorting damp patch on extrrnal wall. Outside plumbing work to enable this to happen. Tiling/splashbacks. Painting/decorating. I feel slightly sick thinking about it. Awaiting estimates.

Depends what you’re having done really.

I had a whole kitchen refit from Wickes (DO NOT RECOMMEND) 5 years ago and I have a tiny galley kitchen, didn’t move any appliances, didn’t have a dishwasher added and it cost me £9.5k for a nice-ish kitchen.

I did have cupboards and a worktop installed on one side but there was no plumbing etc involved. I’m still pissed off about the cost 😂

My parents on the other hand spent £34k (!!!!) on their kitchen from Wren, which then had to be replaced (for free) 4 years later as all the cupboards were warping and peeling.

So it depends on size, how high spec you want the kitchen, if you need plumbings moved, if you want to add spaces for appliances, who you want to do it etc etc.

Really research the people doing it though and I’d try and find an independent kitchen fitter with personal recs if you can.

Ok from my limited knowledge I’d roughly guess £40k minimum

Juat edited to see you said external wall!

Not Wickes (Pleasant but slightly clueless sales guy nudging us towards fancy stuff.) The independent designer we tried seemed slightly insane. Probably Howdens and local builder. Nice Howdens lady seems v sane and practical.

We had our whole kitchen redone in October - December, walls knocked down v, New floor, cabinets new hob integrated into the work surface, (it's amazing), double cooker, fridge/freezer & dishwasher...30-40k but we were dealing with a kitchen from the 80s ... nothing worked and it was disgusting. I love it.

mnahmnah · 27/08/2025 20:13

DM is currently having hers done and sounds pretty much what you are doing. It’s a local firm rather than a chain. £26k. That includes a Quooker tap and a hob that has a built-in extractor.

PollyHutchen · 27/08/2025 20:14

Oh yes, dishwasher too...

I've just done the kitchen in my mum's flat. 6 base units of varying size, 3 wall units, taps, plumbing tidy, sink, oven and hob. Used Howdens units. Was about 5k for me to fit myself.

Previously did our own kitchen with B&Q units all appliances, oven, hob, fridge, and instant boil tap for similar money. Paid a local guy to fit it (badly).

Howdens units are expensive but come pre assembled and have nice quality drawer runners etc.

If I do it again, I'll be using B&Q units and finding the fittings to match the quality of the Howdens ones.

Wickes did our bathrooms. Expensive and really shite. Never never never use them.

HappiestSleeping · 27/08/2025 20:23

I would add that if funds aren't a problem, I think Howdens are a little overpriced, but not massively. Very easy to fit so you save on installation cost.

If I could afford it, I would buy Howdens.

tangobravo · 27/08/2025 21:23

We've just had a wall knocked through, wooden floors sanded and finished, new (wooden doors) kitchen with peninsula, quartz tops. Downstairs loo fitted. New plumbing and electrics for kitchen. Approx £25k without appliances.

Theemptycase · 27/08/2025 21:28

I’ve just done my small kitchen.
£10k for howdens kitchen including appliances, flooring
£5k for local fitter

BusiBo · 27/08/2025 21:37

We are currently doing our small/medium kitchen. We have knocked down a small wall (ourselves), will need electrics, plastering, new tiled floor, new cabinets and worktops from Howdens, all new appliances except a washing machine and so far we are looking at about 10-11k. We have done/are doing as much as we can ourselves and working hard to keep the costs down (budget appliances), sourcing tiles from FB market place. Using friends in the trades e.c.t

Geneticsbunny · 28/08/2025 09:50

I think £40, 000 too

Bluenose1966 · 29/08/2025 16:55

Just ordered an in-frame kitchen units from DIY-Kitchens in Leeds, used them in our old house and the quality was great. Worth looking at the photos/ reviews on their website and the independent FB group for an idea.
£7,600 Units which include tall dresser and tall integrated units for fridge, freezer and oven. Their standard shaker ones woukd have been about £1,500 cheaper.
£4,400 - all new appliances with 5 yr warranty including Neff hide and slide oven and matching microwave.
£2,500 - ripping out of old kitchen and fitting new.
£2,700 quartz
£2000 amtico floor
Hoping the total cost will be no more than £20k.

Also used a company called BeauBijouDesigns. Cost £299 but you get it refunded when ordering DIY-kitchen as they get a trade discount. Fab design, they sort the order out and reduced my stress 100%. Definitely recommend.
