Please help me design my hallway (Amtico)

Looking for advice. I am changing my hallway flooring to Amtico and installing underfloor heating beneath. Entrance hallway is about 7m long and between 2 and 3m wide at various points. I want to lay checkerboard LVT on the diagonal, and did a couple of mock ups on MS Copilot since cant decide if I should go with a 45x45cm tile, or a 30x30cm tile. The pics model a 7x2m space (at its narrowest point) and it is a generic hallway, same size as mine.

The 45x45cm combination is only available in a more expensive Signature range vs 30x30cm (Spacia, cheaper). They both have a 'marble' effect, the Signature tile has more colour variation. The house decor will eventually be more contemporary, not traditional.

What do you think? Which size would suit?

The bigger tiles look elegant, the smaller tiles look cluttered

Bigger tiles for sure. They open up the space

LibertyLily · 09/08/2025 23:24

Definitely the 45 x 45 tiles. Imo they make the space appear wider/larger.

Thank you, @Beachbodyready and @geoger
would you give any sort of trim on the side, or just leave as is (the latter, i think)

I like it as it is. The trim might shrink the space. Would you consider painting the skirting boards and door frames/door black?

I plan to leave the door frames white for now. considered a black Dado rail but it feels too monochrome and period. could paint the skirting boards since they are changing (let me see a mock up). I'll add a nicer light fixture than what i have, and add some furniture.

I was considering painting my white staircase black - this is to one side of the hallway. I have heard though that it will be a nightmare to keep clean. Need to think of a nice modern stair refurb project next, probably with black as base.

White woodwork would look really good too. A black staircase would be hard to keep clean - black shows all the dust. What about painting the wood of the staircase white with a black/grey striped carpet or a natural type carpet with a black trim?
will try to find a pic

Something like this? Lots of colour ways with black trim
